Summary

This job involves leading engineering and scientific efforts for advanced naval combat systems, particularly the Aegis Ballistic Missile Defense system, by overseeing development, testing, certification, and integration with broader defense programs.

Key Requirements

Full Job Description

You will serve as an ENGINEER/SCIENTIST in the Integrated Combat Systems Department of NAVSURFWARCENDLD.

In addition to the Basic Requirements for this position, your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the next lower pay band, ND-04 (GS 12/13 equivalency), in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector.

Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Experience as a professional Engineer or Scientist providing leadership and guidance for Combat System/Combat System Element Engineering, Testing, or Certification.

Examples of experience may include: Leading a team of scientists and engineers in the System Engineering of a Combat System, Weapon System or a Combat System Element Leading a team of scientists and engineers in the execution of System Engineering Technical Reviews (SETR) for a Combat System, Weapon System or a Combat System Element Leading a Combat System Engineering effort where systems engineering design and development methodologies, paradigms, tools, and metrics were identified, implemented and utilized Additional qualification information can be found from the following Office of Personnel Management website: https://www.opm.gov/policy-data-oversight/classification-qualifications/general-schedule-qualification-standards/#url=List-by-Occupational-Series General Engineering Series, 0801 Physics Series, 1310 Operations Research Series, 1515 Mathematics Series, 1520 Computer Science Series, 1550 Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social).

  • You will provide oversight and direction to all NSWCDD tasking associated with Aegis BMD Baseline 5.x Combat System development, including Requirements Analysis and Definition, Architecture Development, Performance Testing and Evaluation.
  • You will provide oversight and direction to all NSWCDD tasking associated with Certification and integration with the Ballistic Missile Defense System.
  • You will work closely with the Aegis BMD Program Director, Deputy Program Director and Chief Engineer to develop and manage NSWCDD's system engineering efforts and provide programmatic support for the Weapon System Development Division.
  • You will provide technical leadership to a diverse team of scientists and engineers from NSWCDD, other government agencies, and industry partners, while planning, developing, and negotiating tasks with MDA/AB.
  • You will coordinate all NSWCDD (Depts) combat system development tasking for Aegis BMD 5.x, while managing a budget of approximately $20 million annually.
