Job Description

Summary

This job involves acting as an expert on ballistic missile defense systems for the Navy, focusing on ensuring ships and related equipment are ready for action through planning exercises, solving maintenance problems, and providing technical advice.

It supports high-level defense programs and involves working with various military teams to keep missile defense capabilities operational.

Key Requirements

  • At least one year of specialized experience equivalent to GS-13 or NH-03 in Aegis Ballistic Missile Defense (BMD), including RDT&E processes or sustainment efforts for BMD-capable ships or Missile Defense System (MDS)
  • Expertise as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) in supporting BMD war games, exercises, and operational readiness
  • Ability to provide operational, managerial, technical, and combat systems readiness support for Aegis BMD ships, fleets, and repair activities
  • Skills in identifying and resolving maintenance and readiness issues for Aegis-Based Defense Systems
  • Experience conducting complex studies, trend analysis, and cross-organizational problem-solving

Full Job Description

You will serve as a Ballistic Missile Defense (BMD) Waterfront Readiness Officer in the Aegis-Based Defense (AB) Program Executive Office of AEGIS BMD.

The Secretary of Defense has ordered a department-wide hiring freeze subject to certain limited exceptions. This position is subject to the DoD hiring freeze.

Offers of employment related to this vacancy announcement will not be executed until the position has an approved exemption.

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower pay band, NH-03 (GS-13 Equivalent), in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector in Aegis Ballistic Missile Defense (BMD), Aegis BMD Research Development Test and Evaluation (RDT&E) processes or sustainment efforts to ensure operational readiness of BMD capable ships or Missile Defense System (MDS).

  • You will serve as Aegis-Based Defense Program Office Subject Matter Expert (SME) in support of Missile Defense System (MDS) Joint and Bi-Lateral Ballistic Missile Defense (BMD) War Games and Exercises.
  • You will provide operational, managerial, technical and BMD combat systems readiness and maintenance support for Aegis BMD ships, TYCOM staffs, numbered Fleets, and Repair Activities.
  • You will identify and resolve maintenance and operational readiness issues related to Aegis-Based Defense Systems and fielded BMD capabilities.
  • You will conduct highly complex studies, trend analysis, and reviews on highly complex problems that cross organizational boundaries and promulgates solutions.
  • You will provide managerial and technical support in development and monitoring of BMD related sustainment efforts including reliability and maintainability studies relating to Missile Defense System (MDS) and combat system elements.
  • You will assess delivered BMD capabilities at the warfighter level and provide feedback to the capability development process pertaining to the Focused Fleet Feedback (F3) Program and Research Development Test and Evaluation process.
  • You will coordinate Fleet technical BMD waterfront refresher training and warfighter engagements, and collaborate with respective TYCOM readiness organizational and maintenance personnel.
  • You will provide liaison as on-site Aegis-Based Defense Program Office technical, operational and warfighter readiness subject matter expert to include real world events.
  • You will author responses to internal and external tasking from Department of War, Missile Defense Agency, and Navy requests for technical information and advice on Aegis-Based Defense Systems matters.
