Job Description

Summary

This job involves working as a civil engineering technician at a U.S.

Army base in Maryland, where you'll create plans and designs for building, repairing, and maintaining facilities, while also handling fuel systems and preparing contracts for projects.

It's a hands-on role supporting military operations through technical problem-solving and coordination with architects and engineers.

Key Requirements

Full Job Description

This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD Workforce to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.

About the Position: Serves as a Civil Engineering Technician at Aberdeen Proving Ground, Maryland.

BASIC REQUIREMENT: Specialized experience including technical work in the areas such as: drafting, surveying construction estimating, physical science, mathematics, aerospace, architecture, chemicals, electrical or mechanical systems, mining, petroleum, or nuclear systems.

OR Experience in a trade or craft that work required intensive knowledge of engineering principles, techniques, methods, and precedents for example trade positions with substantial developmental, test, or design responsibilities such as: a Planner and estimator who analyzed designs for production purposes or an Instrument maker or model maker who performed design or development work on devices fabricated.

OR Certified by the National Institute for Certification in Engineering Technologies, an organization sponsored by the National Society of Professional Engineers.

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 grade level in the Federal service which includes: 1.) Preparing plans, designs, and specifications required for approved special projects involving maintenance, repair, alteration or construction in support of installation mission and tenant activities, 2.) Prepare projects for accomplishment of open-ended architectural/engineering (A-E) design/study development contracts, 3.) Managing fuel distribution, replenishing fuel tanks, and monitoring fuel capacity, AND 4.) Preparing contract documentation for work, estimates, contracts, and delivery orders for projects within the Directorate of Public Works.

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify.

For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted. Major Duties:

  • Serve as an Engineering Technician responsible for developing plans and designs for a variety of installation construction and maintenance projects for facilities and surrounding areas.
  • Investigate and analyzes site visits requests and determines best methods forward for the development and solutions.
  • Develop end-to-end Architectural/Engineering (A-E) project documentation timelines to prepare for project work to include a detailed scope of work that specifically addresses the type of work requested, cost estimates, and materials needed.
  • Point of contact and liaison for the A-E Personnel for projects.
  • Complete evaluations of scope of work, government estimates, and backlogged work requests.
  • Prepare contract specifications and modifications as required.
  • Submit design study packages to higher headquarters for review and approval.
  • Serve as an advisor to personnel involved in the construction process.
