Job Description

Summary

This role involves managing the distribution of donated USDA foods to schools and other agencies in South Carolina, ensuring everything follows federal and state rules, and helping improve food programs for better nutrition in education.

It also includes coordinating emergency food aid during disasters and supporting software updates for tracking.

A good fit would be someone with a business or agriculture background who has hands-on experience in food distribution and enjoys working on policy and team projects.

Key Requirements

Full Job Description

The person in this position will direct food distribution personnel in determining entitlements, allocations, distribution of United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) donated food and processing contracts.

Oversee the daily operation of food commodity, distribution allocation, and food usage surveys as appropriate.

Provide staff support and expertise for food service program improvements in support of new or existing federal regulations or State Board of Education policies.

Evaluate and make recommendations for food service program and food distribution policy regulations.

Provide technical assistance to Recipient Agency (RAs) to ensure compliance with state, federal and agency policies, laws and regulations.

Serve and participate on quality teams relevant to food program services across division lines to administer special education projects to enhance goals and objectives of public education.

Evaluate state warehousing and distribution contract and implement solutions.

Assist program office with implementation of new software (nTIG grant) to ensure commodity products, processing, surveys and reports are generated to meet reporting agencies guidelines.

Coordinate on behalf of South Carolina Department of Education (SCDE) the Emergency Support Function 11 (ESF-11) Food Services, under the SC emergency Preparedness Response Team.

In charge of distributing and securing USDA Food to staging areas within the disaster area and to support the maintenance of sanitary conditions for USDA food storage, distribution and preparation.

Perform all other duties assigned by your supervisor. Consult with contract specialist to advise on contract templates and implementation process with School Food Authorities (SFAs).


This position is located in the Office of Health and Nutrition.

Requirements


A bachelor's degree and experience in education, management or business.

Qualifications

Master of Science in business management, agribusiness or related field with five (5) years of experience with USDA food distribution programs. Bachelor of Science degree in business management, agriculture, with eight (8) years’ experience with USDA food distribution programs.

Additional Information

May involve travel, including overnight stays.
