DSHS Psychiatric Youth Counselor 4

At Lake Burien Transitional Care Facility in beautiful Burien, Washington, our team works to serve youth ages 13 to 17 who have co-occurring intellectual and developmental disabilities. Facility staff work alongside youth, empowering them to learn self-care skills so they can thrive.

The facility opened in July 2024 with support from Washington State Department of Social and Health Services, Washington State Department of Children Youth and Families, Washington State Health Care Authority, MultiCare and Seattle Children’s Hospital.

The voluntary facility currently can serve up to 12 youth and may eventually expand to serve up to 24 youth.

The property was designed with youth in mind and features accessible spaces for on-site educational services and therapies, and beautiful outdoor spaces.

The Psychiatric Youth Counselor 4 will provide supervision of assigned staff who are working in secure client areas, to ensure that youth are provided daily direct support to promote habilitation, health safety, protection, and quality of life in the facility and the community.

King County employees receive 5% premium pay in addition to the advertised salary and are eligible to receive a free ORCA card for transportation use

Some of what you'll do:

• Directs, assigns, and monitors the performance of all Psychiatric Youth Counselors
• Has decision-making authority and consults with the clinical treatment team and medical staff when warranted
• Provides leadership, supervision, orientation, and mentorship of assigned Psychiatric Youth Counselors
• Facilitates ongoing competency assessment and evaluation of Psychiatric Youth Counselors
• Monitors staffing levels throughout the campus and contributes to overall staffing and attendance activities
• Oversees ongoing educational and professional development activities of Psychiatric Youth Counselors
• Oversees and supervises the overall execution of the unit to ensure that a therapeutic milieu is maintained
• Acts as a liaison to other departments (i.e. security, school, recreation therapy, dietary, custodial, etc.) & assists in coordinated efforts including but not limited to hiring activities
• Conducts preliminary investigations and provides input on critical incident reviews along with recommended corrective actions
• Investigates and mediates concerns, grievances, and complaints related to assigned unit and unit staff, and other areas as requested
• Oversees the facilitation of both individualized and continuous therapeutic interventions, when clinically necessary

Who should apply:
A Bachelor’s degree with major study in Social Sciences, Education, Recreation, Psychology or related field and two years of social service experience.

OR

One year as a Psychiatric Youth Counselor 3.

Equivalent experience/education.
