The Department of Transportation is actively looking to fill a Driver License Examiner position in Bucks County. This vital role involves serving as a PennDOT Driver License Examiner, where the primary responsibility is to enhance highway safety through the administration of standardized tests that assess the skills and abilities of applicants seeking non-commercial driver licenses. In addition to conducting these essential evaluations, the examiner will also play a key role in assisting customers at the Driver License Center. Requirements

In this position, you will assess the physical and driving qualifications of applicants, as well as evaluate the mechanical condition of vehicles to ensure they meet the established safety standards for driving.

You will conduct various vision tests, including telebinocular and color perception assessments, to gauge applicants' visual capabilities.

Additionally, you will administer both non-commercial and commercial driver license knowledge examinations to verify that individuals possess a solid understanding of the Vehicle Code and traffic signage.

You will also oversee the non-commercial driver license pre-trip, skills, and driving tests, adhering to departmental standards.

Your responsibilities will include scrutinizing applications, registrations, and permits for any signs of irregularities or fraudulent activity, as well as determining vehicle specifications to ensure the correct tests are administered.

Furthermore, you will inspect motor vehicles for compliance with safety features such as inspection stickers, lights, and windshield wipers.You will review various documents, including applications, birth certificates, Social Security cards, marriage certificates, court documents, proof of residency, and other official papers issued by U.S.

and foreign authorities, to verify their authenticity.

Utilizing multiple systems and databases, you will authenticate identity documents to establish an individual's identity and eligibility for a driver’s license or identification card.

Your role will also involve identifying fraudulent activities and preventing the creation of false identities and identity theft.

After processing test results and applications, you will issue driver licenses and identification cards to qualified applicants.

You will provide customers with essential information regarding driver’s license renewals, duplicates, out-of-state transfers, and the process for obtaining a motorcycle license or a commercial driver’s license (CDL), including the various restrictions and endorsements associated with each type of license.

Additionally, you will generate Restoration Requirements Letters upon request for customers who visit in person, ensuring they receive the necessary guidance and support.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment, 80 hours bi-weekly
  • Work hours are 8:15 AM to 4:45 PM, Tuesday - Saturday, with a 30-minute lunch.
  • This position will require overtime and travel
  • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • One year of experience as a Driver License Examiner Assistant (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
  • Two years of experience obtaining, evaluating, and providing information to the public.


Special Requirements:

  • This position requires an active Pennsylvania non-commercial Class C Driver’s License or equivalent and twenty-one years of age at the time of application.
  • This position requires no suspensions or revocations of a driver’s license during the five year period immediately preceding employment.
  • All employees in this job hired after February 28, 2022, are required to obtain an active unrestricted Class M driver’s license within the first six months of employment or before the end of the probationary period and maintain it during employment.
