Requirements

In this position, you will evaluate the physical and driving qualifications of applicants while ensuring that vehicles comply with safety regulations. Your responsibilities will include administering vision tests, such as telebinocular and color perception assessments, as well as conducting knowledge exams for both non-commercial and commercial driver licenses to confirm applicants' understanding of the Vehicle Code and traffic signs. You will also perform pre-trip, skills, and driving tests according to departmental standards, and scrutinize applications and registrations for any signs of discrepancies or fraudulent activity. Additionally, you will assess vehicle features, including inspection stickers and mechanical components, to determine the necessary tests.

Your role will involve reviewing various documents, such as birth certificates and Social Security cards, to verify their authenticity and establish an individual's identity and eligibility for a driver’s license or identification card, while also identifying potential fraud and preventing identity theft. Ultimately, you will process test results and applications, issuing licenses and identification cards to qualified individuals, and providing information regarding renewals, duplicates, out-of-state transfers, and commercial license requirements.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment, 80 hours bi-weekly
  • Work hours are 8:15 AM to 4:45 PM, Tuesday - Saturday, with a 30-minute lunch.
  • Overtime and travel as needed
  • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • One year of experience as a Driver License Examiner Assistant (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
  • Two years of experience obtaining, evaluating, and providing information to the public.

Special Requirements:
  • This position requires an active Pennsylvania non-commercial Class C Driver’s License or equivalent and twenty-one years of age at the time of application.

  • This position requires no suspensions or revocations of a driver’s license during the five year period immediately preceding employment.

  • All employees in this job hired after February 28, 2022, are required to obtain an active unrestricted Class M driver’s license within the first six months of employment or before the end of the probationary period and maintain it during employment.

  • This position requires possession of an active Class A Pennsylvania Commercial Driver's License or equivalent with the following endorsements: P and N. The Commercial Driver License cannot have any of the following restrictions: E, L, N, O, or Z.
