The Department of Transportation is seeking candidates for the position of Driver License Examiner.
In this role, you will play a vital part in promoting highway safety by administering standardized tests to assess the skills of both commercial and non-commercial driver license applicants.
Additionally, you will assist customers at the Driver License Center, focusing on verifying identity documents to prevent identity theft and fraud.

In this position, you will evaluate the physical and driving qualifications of applicants while also inspecting the mechanical condition of vehicles to ensure compliance with safety standards.
Your responsibilities will include administering vision tests, such as telebinocular and color perception assessments, as well as conducting knowledge exams for both non-commercial and commercial driver licenses to verify applicants' familiarity with the Vehicle Code and traffic signs.
You will also perform pre-trip, skills, and driving tests for non-commercial licenses according to departmental protocols.
Additionally, you will review applications and permits for any irregularities or signs of fraud, assess vehicle characteristics for appropriate testing, and ensure vehicles meet safety feature requirements.
Verifying the authenticity of various identity documents is critical, along with accessing databases for confirmation.
Establishing an applicant's identity and eligibility for a driver’s license or identification card is vital, as is identifying potential fraud and preventing identity theft.
Lastly, you will process test results and applications, issue licenses and identification cards to qualified individuals, and provide information regarding renewals, duplicates, out-of-state transfers, motorcycle licenses, and commercial driving requirements.

QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
This position requires an active Pennsylvania non-commercial Class C Driver’s License or equivalent and twenty-one years of age at the time of application.
This position requires no suspensions or revocations of a driver’s license during the five year period immediately preceding employment.
All employees in this job hired after February 28, 2022, are required to obtain an active unrestricted Class M driver’s license within the first six months of employment or before the end of the probationary period and maintain it during employment.
This position requires possession of an active Class A Pennsylvania Commercial Driver's License or equivalent with the following endorsements: P and N. The Commercial Driver License cannot have any of the following restrictions: E, L, N, O, or Z.
