In addition to meeting the minimum qualifications below, you must also possess one of the following to satisfy the Individual Occupational Requirement for the GS-1560 job series: Degree: Mathematics, statistics, computer science, data science or field directly related to the position.

The degree must be in a major field of study (at least at the baccalaureate level) that is appropriate for the position.

OR Combination of education and experience: Combination of education and experience: Courses equivalent to a major field of study (30 semester hours) as shown in above plus, additional education or appropriate experience.

You qualify for the GS-13 grade level if you possess one (1) year of specialized experience at the GS-12 grade level or equivalent performing duties such as: Using advanced data management concepts and techniques to interpret information; Developing data reports and new data systems for an organization; and Leveraging advanced functions like scripting and creation of complex calculated fields.

Major Duties:

  • As a Data Scientist (Data Management), you will perform the following duties: Manage the development of data reports, integration between data systems, and development of new data systems for data storage; Develop strategic approaches to utilize data to identify criminal activity and support complex, long-term investigations; and Utilize research, data science disciplines, and analytical strategies to evaluate large data sets connected to criminal investigations.
