This job involves working as a data analyst for the Air Force Weather team at headquarters, where you'll guide projects to build advanced tools for handling and analyzing complex weather data to support military operations.
You'll provide expert advice on data science to improve how the Air Force accesses, stores, and shares high-quality information.
It's ideal for someone with strong technical skills in math or data science who enjoys solving tough problems in a defense setting.
The primary purpose of this position: To serve as Air Force Weather Data Analyst for Headquarters Air Force, Directorate of Weather (HAF/A3W), Directorate of Operations Deputy Chief of Staff, Operations.
The incumbent provides HAF/A3W with Air Force Weather Weapon System (AFWWS) authoritative direction and data science expertise to initiatives and projects focused on the discovery / development of cutting-edge tools / resources to access, store, analyze, and exchange complex, high-quality data.
This is a GG-14 position in the Defense Civilian Intelligence Personnel System (DCIPS).
The GG-14 duties for the "Professional" work category are at the "Senior" work level and are equivalent to those at the GS-14 level.
The selectee's salary will be set within the grade equivalent to a GS/GG grade based on the selectee's qualifications in relation to the job.

The degree must be in a major field of study (at least at the baccalaureate level) that is appropriate for the position.
or Combination of education and experience: Courses equivalent to a major field of study (30 semester hours) as shown in paragraph A above, plus additional education or appropriate experience.

Expert professional knowledge of quantitative techniques and methods used to conceptualize, develop, adapt, modify and apply new models to resolve the most difficult problems and to achieve support for alternative solutions within the scientific community.

Advanced knowledge and skill of a broad range of defense department or private sector C4 systems, data, scientist Big Data analytics, machine learning, AI, cognitive science, programs, operations, strategies, tactics, resource and information processes, force structure, and weapons systems.
Includes operations research analysis techniques and mastery of scientific and analytical capabilities. 3.
Advanced skill in articulating and negotiating very complex and sensitive issues with officials of diverse perspectives and often with different or opposing views.
Expert Ability to negotiate and defend findings and gain executive support for new program concepts. 4.
Skill in leading advanced study teams composed of industry, government, and academic experts; originate new ideas, projects, and methodologies; and execute projects and/or studies within established financial and/or time constraints.
5. Skill to develop and utilize appropriate data collection techniques and design, build and use models and simulation techniques. 6.
Ability to plan, organize, direct and lead the functions and staff and/or study team tasked to originate new ideas, projects and methodologies.

At a minimum, qualification requirements stipulated by the US Office of personnel Management for the 1560 occupational series must be met.

Position is designated special-sensitive and requires eligibility for access to Sensitive Compartmented Information (SCI), other intelligence-related Special Sensitive information, or involvement in Top Secret Special Access Programs (SAP) to fully perform the duties and responsibilities of the position.
A non-disclosure agreement must be signed. Drug Testing: This position has been designated by the Air Force as a Testing Designated Position (TDP) under the Air Force Civilian Testing Program.
Employee must pass initial and periodic short notice drug testing.

PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work.

DUTY 1: Provides the development and implementation of Data Science solutions.
DUTY 2: Leverages the latest data science innovations in alternative data sourcing, such as the use of administrative records and other data sources.
DUTY 3: Evaluation and Assessment of New Technologies.
Develops, implements and maintains a mission-driven enterprise data strategy that supports the identification of methods, processes, algorithms, tools and systems to extract and interpret findings from varied structure data set related to data science lifecycle.
DUTY 4: Research Leadership. Represents Headquarters Air Force Weather at meetings, conferences and senior level forums as an expert consultant and advisor on data science.
