This job is about leading a team of office workers in a county transportation department, handling day-to-day administrative tasks and supporting human resources needs like hiring, payroll, and employee evaluations.
It involves coordinating everything from onboarding new staff to managing leave and performance reviews to keep operations running smoothly.
A good fit would be someone organized, detail-oriented, and experienced in supervising teams and HR processes, who enjoys helping people and solving workplace issues.

In this position, you will oversee the clerical staff within the county, providing guidance and support for various administrative functions.
Your responsibilities will include managing tasks related to personnel matters, payroll processing, leave management—including Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA) leave—benefits administration, accident reporting, worker’s compensation claims, employee performance evaluations, and travel arrangements.
Additionally, you will act as a Human Resource Liaison for the District, handling all HR-related activities concerning job vacancies and recruitment for both permanent and seasonal roles within the county maintenance office.
This will involve scheduling interviews, preparing necessary documentation, verifying candidate qualifications, and coordinating pre-employment drug and alcohol testing.
You will also be responsible for organizing appointments for random drug testing and for employees who have been absent for over 30 days.
Furthermore, you will manage the Summer and Winter temporary programs at the county level, assist with the interview process for seasonal and permanent positions, and facilitate the onboarding of new hires while overseeing the separation process for departing personnel.
Your role will include processing Employee Performance Action Requests (EPARs) for various employment changes, such as separations, retirements, and reclassifications, and serving as the primary contact for all human resources inquiries, job openings, and related guidance.
You will plan, organize, and delegate tasks to your team to align with County and District priorities, ensuring that work is completed accurately and thoroughly.
Lastly, you will coordinate the Employee Performance Review (EPR) process, maintaining and preparing EPRs and position descriptions for county employees, while assisting managers and supervisors in keeping these documents up to date.
