Job Description

Summary

This job involves reviewing inmate records, interviewing prisoners, and managing their classifications for things like housing, security levels, jobs, and programs in a South Carolina prison.

It requires coordinating fair systems for about 250 inmates, tracking their progress, and handling information requests from officials.

A good fit would be someone with experience in administration or corrections who is organized, communicates well, and can handle sensitive situations calmly.

Key Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree, or associate's degree plus one year of administrative/correctional experience, or high school diploma plus two years of administrative/correctional experience

  • Proficiency in operating SCDC computer systems for accessing inmate histories
  • Capability to respond to inquiries from officials and agencies via oral or written means
  • Successful completion of four weeks of SCDC Basic Training upon hire
  • Ability to manage a caseload of approximately 250 inmates and perform periodic reviews

Full Job Description

  • Evaluates inmate records to determine eligibility for institutional assignment, custody changes, employment and treatment programs.
  • Coordinates and implements an equitable classification system for a caseload of approximately 250 inmates.
  • Conducts periodic reviews and evaluates inmates' progress.
  • Interviews inmates relating to their general institutional adjustment or related problems.
  • Responds orally and/or through written correspondence to inquiries for Information on inmates by departmental officials and other agencies.
  • Operates the SCDC computer to ascertain information pertaining to inmate's social, criminal, educational and family histories.
  • Perform other related duties as required.
Must successfully complete four (4) weeks of SCDC Basic Training upon hire.

Requirements

State of South Carolina Minimal Requirements:

A high school diploma and related experience. A bachelor’s degree may be substituted for the required related experience.



SCDC Minimum Requirements:

  • A bachelor's degree.

OR

  • An associate’s degree and any one (1) year combination of administrative and/or correctional experience.

OR

  • A high school diploma and any (2) year combination of administrative and/or correctional experience.
