Full Job Description

The Iowa Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), Division of State-Operated Specialty Care, Bureaus of Cherokee Mental Health Institute (CMHI) and Civil Commitment Unit for Sex Offenders (CCUSO) are seeking a Business Manager to join our team! This is a full-time position with HHS.

The Business Manager serves both CMHI and CCUSO and is a key leadership position for the agency. Work examples include:

• Direct the preparation and administration of the budgets for both facilities and establish effective administrative controls for financial and business operations.
• Consult with and give direction to program directors, department heads, and the Institutional Superintendent concerning staffing and resource allocation.
• Serve as a member of several important hospital committees.
• Prepare reports and respond to requests for information on business office and/or facility matters.
• Directly supervise the CMHI Business Office, including the coordination and monitoring of work performance plans, development of work schedules, and supervision and evaluation of work performed by staff.
• Provide oversight of all purchases for CMHI and CCUSO while ensuring purchases are conducted in accordance with purchasing policies and aligned with budget management strategies for each facility.
• Represent CMHI and CCUSO on committees, task forces, and work groups as necessary.

This position directly supervises eight key facility staff and is indirectly responsible for approximately 50 subordinate staff.

Applicants will be required to complete a background check to be considered for this position.

CMHI provides active inpatient treatment to adults in need of acute psychiatric care. The facility offers several services includingindividualized treatment plans.

Support for patients with special education needs to continue their education is provided, and individuals are encouraged to collaborate with staff members in formulating their own plan.

CCUSO provides a secure, long-term, and highly structured setting to treat sexual offenders who have served their prison terms, but, in a separate civil trial, have been found likely to reoffend.

The facility provides state-of-the-art treatment to patients to lower their risk of re-offending and to release them from confinement as quickly as possible.

There is a full range of diagnostic, treatment, and rehabilitative services focused on addressing the conditions impacting a patient’s likelihood of re-offending.
