Full Job Description

This position is located at the Fort Leavenworth US Disciplinary Barracks, Metal Shop. The USDB mission is to create and maintain "FIRST CHOICE" vocational programs for military offenders.

A qualified candidate must possess the following: Work experience managing or directing the activities of a Sheet Metal Shop.

In addition to the above qualifications, candidates who possess the following qualifications will be considered "Highly Preferred" or "Best Qualified": Experience working in a correctional environment.

Experience in gas and arc welding. Experience with manufacturing and assembling various types of metal products/parts. Experience in purchasing metal and metal fabrication supplies.

Experience working with various welding processes to include brazing, soldering, flame cutting, and surface hardening. Experience must be reflected on your resume!

Applicants meeting minimum qualification requirements and best qualitied criteria will be considered before candidates only meeting minimum qualifications of the position. Major Duties:

  • Manages and oversees business activity of Welding Shop. Supervise Work of Inmates. Teach and instruct welding.
  • Conducts surveys, reviews activity reports and makes recommendations concerning services, promotional activities and revenue improvements.
  • Ensure and Maintain a Safe Environment and Equipment. Inspect, maintain and repair equipment.
  • Budget and Purchase Necessary Materials. Maintain Inventory of Materials.
  • Manufacture and assemble various types of metal parts; work with electric, gas and other welding processes; use brazing, soldering, flame cutting and surface hardening techniques. Use a computer based drawing/drafting system.
