The Seattle Police Department (SPD) is seeking a dynamic, detail-oriented Administrative Specialist II to provide high-level administrative support to the Latent Print Unit. SPD’s Latent Print Unit is an accredited forensic laboratory responsible for providing high-quality forensic analysis and services in accordance with ethical standards. The unit supports the department’s mission to prevent crime, enforce the law, and promote public safety by delivering respectful, professional, and dependable police services. The incumbent will play a critical role in providing lead administrative support to the Latent Print Unit staff.
Requirements
• Provide high-level administrative support to the manager and staff of the Latent Print Unit, including reviewing and entering requests; printing case jackets and barcodes; responding to inquiries from SPD personnel and external agency partners; and coordinating unit meetings, including scheduling, preparation, minute-taking, distribution, and meeting setup.
• Prepare reports to support the Department’s needs and requirements, which includes, but is not limited to overtime/payroll reporting, training compliance, ongoing certification status, and maintaining equipment inventory records.
• Assist with scanning and entering fingerprint records for HR and Department employees.
• Track, maintain, and distribute records related to the board memberships with the International Association for Identification, PNWD-IAI, and the AFIS Advisory Committee ensuring compliance for staff.
• Inventory, track, and maintain laboratory and office equipment, supplies, and training records. Track the certification status of Latent Print Examiners and project recertification costs for budget and planning purposes.
• Order and maintain supplies to support unit operations, including monitoring inventory levels and coordinating with Fiscal on all purchases.
• Assist with Public Disclosure requests ensuring compliance and assist with examiners’ discovery requests.
• Other administrative duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
Two years of clerical support experience (or a combination of education, training and/or experience which provides evidence of the ability to perform the work).
Desired Qualifications:
• Highly skilled in Microsoft Excel, Word and Outlook.
• Ability to adapt to shifting priorities in a dynamic work environment.
• Demonstrated ability to independently create, maintain, and produce reports.
• Excellent organizational and communication skills.
• Demonstrated ability to successfully participate in a customer service environment and work independently and as part of a team.
• Demonstrated leadership skills
• Familiarity with CJIS requirements; Access Certification a plus.
Position Requirements:
• Pass an SPD Background Investigation.

The full salary range for this position is $36.89 - $41.31 per hour.
New employees begin at Step 1 of the pay progression, which is $36.89 hourly. Current City employees’ starting rate of pay will be based on Personnel Rules regarding promotions. This is a full-time (1.0 FTE) regular position with full benefits. This is a Civil Service position eligible for overtime.
