Full Job Description

As a WorkSource Specialist, you will be helping customers, in the Resource Room facilitate orientations and career services workshops, or meeting one on one with a job seeker to assess customers work readiness and employability, it is our WorkSource Specialists' goal to engage our job seekers by offering access to the full array of services available through the WorkSource system.

These services increase job seeker's skills and ability to find gain full employment in high-quality jobs and careers.

The home location for this role is the WorkSource Joint Base Lewis McChord (JBLM) located at 11577 41st Division Drive, Joint Base Lewis McChord, WA 98438.

Requirements

In this role, you will regularly meet with customers to determine which service best fits their needs and determine where they are in their employment search. Because you will interact with people needing varying levels of support, listening to understand, empathizing, and the ability to be adaptable with how you communicate are crucial skills in fostering trusting relationships with customers who may have barriers or facing difficult situations.

Some of your daily tasks may include but not limited to:

  • Conduct individual appointments to articulate program services, requirements, and activities and identify components applicable to the customer's need.

  • Review skills and abilities through a variety of assessment, determining training needs and engaging the customer to enroll in training.

  • Manage caseload, provide case management, facilitate appropriate support services and/or make referrals.

  • Identify and evaluate barriers and explore solutions to assist in removing barriers, assist in obtaining needed documentation.

  • Conducting outreach activities to recruit customers into services.

  • Determine eligibility and/or appropriateness for program, enroll and explain program participation requirements.

  • Develop individual employment service plans, guide customers to effectively use in employment and training programs and services.

  • Support the customer to find and keep employment through an extended period of follow up services.

  • Participate in a performance-based program, achieving goals to motivate customers to complete training through educational and vocational achievements.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

Option 1

One (1) year as a WorkSource Specialist 3 or equivalent class within the Employment Security Department, or another state’s Employment Security agency.

Option 2

A Bachelor's degree and three (3) years of relevant experience in workforce development, social or human resource services, public relations, or public contact work, such as: unemployment insurance, social services, human resource services, education, public relations, benefits programs, insurance claims, law enforcement and banking.

Option 3

A combination of education and/or relevant experience totaling at least seven (7) years.

A Master's degree will substitute for one year of the required experience.

  • Needs assessment: Ability to evaluate client situations, goalsetting to establish realistic objectives, case management to develop and oversee service plans, problem-solving to address barriers, and communication skills to guide and support clients effectively.
  • Client Motivation and Career Planning Expertise: Ability to encourage workforce engagement.
  • Career Coaching and Follow-Up Expertise: Ability to provide ongoing workforce guidance.
  • Stakeholder Engagement Expertise: Ability to collaborate with workforce partners.
  • Workforce Program Improvement Expertise: Ability to structure service enhancements.


Additional Requirement of Employment:

  • Must be able to pass a background check and obtain a Joint Base Lewis McChord (JBLM) base access card.
  • Must be able to pass an Unemployment Insurance (UI) claim benefit and Paid Family Medical Leave (PFML) claim and fraud check review.
