Education and Experience: A High School diploma or GED, or higher and five (5) years of experience in wastewater treatment plant operations and maintenance, including two (2) years in a lead capacity.
Licenses and Certificates: Texas Class "C" Driver's License or equivalent from another state. Class "B" Wastewater Certificate of Competency issued by TCEQ.

Requirements

Under general supervision, supervise and coordinate activities of personnel engaged in operation and maintenance of a wastewater treatment plant.

Qualifications

Oversee and coordinate plant operations. Involves: Oversee and ensure compliance in accordance with federal and state requirements and departmental procedures. Inspect and monitor treatment plant operations through all stages of wastewater treatment process. Take appropriate actions to correct equipment and treatment deficiencies. Respond to emergencies and determine remedial action. Monitor sewage and water sample data. Analyze laboratory tests of effluent prior to injection or release. Make required adjustments to meet or exceed regulatory requirements. Regulate dosage of chemicals applied to sewage during treatment. Check for unusual noxious odors and other requirements to assure compliance with waste water treatment regulations. Read and interpret technical manuals, blueprints, and schematics, to install, adjust and set meters and gauges.
Perform assigned administrative duties. Involves: Plan, schedule and implement preventive maintenance program. Ensure availability of standby equipment in proper operating condition. Monitor plant equipment to identify malfunctions. Recommend repair or replacement of components and equipment. Oversee repair of blowers, aeration systems, clarifies, digestion equipment, mixers or similar mechanical equipment. Check completed work to assure proper repairs and adjustments have been made. Inspect electrical equipment for overloads, shorts, loose connections, and power loss. Prepare and maintain daily and monthly equipment and process logs, power records, chemical and gas consumption records and reports using automated databases. Maintain inventory and requisition supplies.
Supervise assigned staff. Involves: Schedule, assign and review operational and procedural activities. Prioritize and coordinate multiple crew activities. Instruct, guide and check work. Appraise employee evaluations. Provide training and development to meet regulatory compliance. Maintain records of operator certification and training. Enforce personnel rules, regulations, and work standard. Counsel, motivate and maintain harmony. Interview applicants. Recommend hiring, termination, transfers, discipline, merit pay or other employee status changes.
