Full Job Description

Organizational Location: This position is with the Department of Homeland Security, within U.S.

Customs and Border Protection, Enterprise Services (ES) Immediate Office of the Executive Assistant Commissioner (EAC), located in Washington, DC.

Specialized Experience: You qualify for the GS-13 grade level if you possess 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level, performing duties such as: Developing original designs, concepts, and visual styles for presentations, visual information designs, and websites.

Developing, implementing and evaluating the effectiveness of communications strategies. Analyzing organizational-specific policy issues to identify and to anticipate communication needs.

You must: Meet all qualification requirements, including education if applicable to this position, subject to verification at any stage of the application process; and Meet all applicable Time in Grade requirements (current federal employees must have served 52 weeks at the next lower grade or equivalent grade band in the federal service) by 03/25/2026.

Customs and Border Protection (CBP) is a federal law enforcement agency that requires all applicants to undergo a thorough background investigation prior to employment in order to promote the agency's core values of vigilance, service to country, and integrity.

In this position you will work with ES leadership to develop original designs, concepts, and visual styles for publications, exhibits, presentations, and websites that evoke certain responses.

Work includes graphic art production, presentations, visual information design, motion graphics, publication design, web page design, printing, and a variety of visual information designs.

This position starts at a salary of $121,785.00 (GS-13, Step 1) to $158,322.00 (GS-13, Step 10).

Major duties include: Planning and directing the design and presentation of visual and video products, for use in publications and presentations throughout ES and across CBP.

Developing informational material that informs appropriate audiences of the agency's activities, plans, policies, programs, and communication programs in furthering CBP goals and objectives.

Communicates visual information requirements to others and coordinates the work of various visual product projects with a number of illustrators, writers, editors, or contract personnel involved in developing the visual products.

Designing multi-media projects using authorized software such as Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, Indesign, and After Effects, Fresco, and Acrobat.
