Credit will be given for all appropriate qualifying experience.
To receive credit for experience, your resume MUST clearly indicate the nature of the duties and responsibilities for each position, starting and ending dates of employment (month/year), and the resume must reflect full and/or part-time or total number of hours worked (i.e., work 40+ hours a week, rather than indicating full-time).
If part-time, the hours must be annotated to be able to pro-rate the amount of qualified specialized experience.
To qualify for this position at the GS-07 grade level, you must possess at least one of the following minimum qualifications by close of the announcement: EXPERIENCE: At least one full year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-05 grade level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors).
This experience includes activities such as planning the preparation and use of photographs, illustrations, drawings, and other artwork, charts, diagrams, dioramas, maps, slides, overlays, and other kinds of visual material for use in communicating information through visual means.
Examples of this include but are not limited to: personally and/or with guidance, provides standardized visual and audio production services to park divisions; knowledge of variety of methods, techniques, and materials used in the design, production, and reproduction of visual products to plan the technical details of, or produce, aesthetically composed visual products in a timely manner; skill in appropriate software to accomplish tasks such as photo and video editing and page design; knowledge of NPS and interagency policies, guidelines, and standards related to websites, audio-visual productions, publications, including NPS Graphic Identify Program; basic knowledge of park resources, park audiences and effective techniques that support project plans developed by others that offer opportunities for varied audiences to connect to the park's resources.

-OR- EDUCATION: Successful completion of at least 1 full year of graduate level education or superior academic achievement with major study in commercial art, fine arts, art history, industrial design, architecture, drafting, interior design, photography, visual communication, or other fields related to the position.

To combine education and experience, first determine the percentage of experience held by dividing the number of months of qualifying full-time experience possessed by 12 and then multiplying by 100.
Then determine the percentage of qualifying education completed by dividing the number of credits completed in excess of the first 60, by 60 then multiply by 100. Add the percentages together.
The total must equal at least 100 percent to qualify.

Summary The National Park Service seeks a detail-oriented and creative communicator to share park information and stories and through digital and visual media to connect people to the many opportunities for recreation and learning in Great Smoky Mountains National Park.
Major Duties Great Smoky Mountains National Park serves diverse local communities, attracts visitors from around the world, and reaches millions more through digital media.
The Visual Information Specialist will represent the National Park Service and support park staff in sharing information and stories with these many audiences, primarily through the web and social media.
The Visual Information Specialist will develop and implement communication strategies for the park to connect people with opportunities to have fun and learn in the park, to share information on topics such as visitor safety and park resources, and more.
The Visual Information Specialist will serve as park's webmaster and manage and build content for the park app.
The position will create and design original, innovative content that provides visitor and educational information conveying high-priority and timely issues to a wide and varied audience.
The position will also serve as the primary coordinator for the park's social media presence, including serving as the coordinator of the park's social media team.
The position will work collaboratively with field staff from all divisions to develop an editorial calendar for social media content and to gather, edit, and post social media content.
The Visual Information Specialist will also coordinate development of standardized visual, audio, and digital production services to park divisions using nationally established guidelines and industry standards.
Area/Duty Station Information This position serves as a Visual Information Specialist focused on digital communications at Great Smoky Mountains National Park (GRSM).
At 522,427 acres, GRSM is one of the largest parks in the eastern United States.
The Park contains 384 miles of roads; 930 miles of backcountry trails; 104 designated backcountry campsites; over 300 miles of boundary; 66 species of mammals; 200 species of birds; 39 species of reptiles, 43 species of amphibians; 68 species of fish; 730 miles of fishable streams; 342 structures, 97 of them historic; 10 auto campgrounds; and 3 major developed areas with concession operations.
The park also manages the Foothills Parkway, used by millions of non-recreational motorists.
The park is located in the states of Tennessee and North Carolina and is surrounded by five counties and National Forest land.
Duty station is near Gatlinburg, TN, located within an hour drive of Knoxville. The area provides a wide range of residential communities, good schools and recreational opportunities.
