The Unclaimed Property unit is excited to announce an opportunity for an Unclaimed Property (UCP) Locator (ETE 3) position within the Taxpayer Account Administration (TAA) division in Tumwater, WA.

Taxpayer Account Administration (TAA) is a division of Revenue that administers many programs including forest excise tax, fish tax, cigarette and other tobacco products taxes, local sales tax, tax incentives, and reseller permits.
Additionally, the division is responsible for the distribution of state and local taxes, ensuring compliance with the Uniform Unclaimed Property Act, and returning unclaimed property (UCP) to the rightful owners.

Requirements
In support of the section's primary function to ensure the timely return of unclaimed property back to its rightful owner, this position reunites citizens and businesses globally with lost property, locating and returning millions of dollars to legal owners using advanced and innovative investigative techniques.
Here are some of the other duties associated:
- Locate and return unclaimed funds to legal owners using sophisticated and innovative investigative techniques.
- Generate system reports and perform unclaimed property database queries to flag large dollar accounts to initiate locating efforts.
- Facilitate and lead outreach programs to inform citizens of Washington State about the UCP Program.
- Develop innovative methods and practices for locating owners of property.
- Conduct outreach and education to promote unclaimed property as a public service and consumer protection program.
- Attend statewide events and public forums promoting unclaimed property.
- Collaborate with the Customer Experience and Communication (CEC) division to research marketing and publicity tools to promote the program.
Telework - This position has the flexibility to work remotely the majority of the time, however the duty station is in Tumwater, Washington and the successful candidate must agree to travel to the office for key scheduled meetings or as operational needs dictate. Details of teleworking considerations will be addressed during the interview process.
Please note that this role also requires flexibility regarding traditional business hours:
- Public Outreach: You may be required to work occasional weekends and evenings to support events and presentations.
- Schedule Fluctuations: To accommodate these events, your standard work schedule may be adjusted to ensure appropriate staffing levels without exceeding total hours.
- Travel: Attending outreach events may require weekend/after-hours travel and overnight stays to attend.

Knowledge of Unclaimed Property Laws & Regulations:- Knowledge of Washington’s Unclaimed Property Act.
- Ability to interpret legal documents (probate, trusts, corporate filings, etc.)

Preference may be granted to candidates who possess the following:
- 12 semester (18 quarter) hours of accounting coursework have been completed.
- Two years of experience in accounting, auditing, banking, brokerage management, financial planning, or unclaimed property.
- A bachelor’s degree involving major study in business, accounting, public administration or closely allied field.
- Advanced working knowledge of KAPS
- Understanding of Washington Unclaimed Property Laws.
- Intermediate knowledge of laws, rules, policies and procedures related to the Department of Revenue.
- Experience in state unclaimed property programs or escheatment.
