Job Description
Summary
This job involves reviewing and processing various permit applications for transportation projects, such as utilities, driveways, and traffic control, while assisting with site inspections and responding to public inquiries.
It supports the state's transportation department by ensuring compliance with regulations and coordinating with engineers, developers, and citizens.
A good fit would be someone detail-oriented with hands-on experience in technical fieldwork, comfortable working outdoors in challenging conditions, and skilled in communication and organization.
Key Requirements
- High school diploma and two years of progressively responsible engineering technician experience, or approved equivalence
- Technician Certification per SCDOT policy may substitute for six months of related experience
- Ability to conduct full reviews of permits including drainage, driveways, landscaping, signs, and traffic control
- Frequent physical demands: bending, kneeling, stooping, lifting up to 50 lbs, walking on rough terrain, and working near traffic
- Attendance at meetings with staff, engineers, developers, citizens, and contractors
- Assisting with citizen concerns, FOIA requests, and training permit inspectors
- Occasional work outside normal hours, including weekends, and exposure to noise or environmental hazards

Requirements
The physical demands for the essential functions involves frequent bending, kneeling, stooping and lifting up to 50 lbs. Walking for extended periods, treading rough terrain, working in close proximity to motoring traffic, and in natural environmental hazards. May require occasional exposure to noise. May require working outside of normal work schedules and weekends.
