Full Job Description

Plans, coordinates, and schedules all necessary maintenance activities to be performed on the State Highway System in Dillon County. Investigates complaints and requests for services received from the public, government officials, and agency personnel. Evaluates each request and responds as necessary. Manages the creation and retention of all unit files, records, reports, correspondence, requisitions, and other office related work. Conducts engineering surveys related to maintenance activities. Performs periodic inspections of state roads and bridges in Dillon County during the day and night and records the conditions of pavement, shoulders, pavement markings, signs, vegetation, and drainage. Manages unit personnel and personnel actions to include interviewing for hiring, promotions, demotions, reclassifications, training, counseling, grievance hearings, and disciplinary actions. Serves as the agency's liaison to the Dillon County Transportation Committee (CTC). Attends all meetings and recommends projects for resurfacing, traffic signal installation, sidewalk repairs, drainage improvements, etc. Works with the committee to ensure all available funds are used to improve the State Highway System. Prepares and explains costs estimates as needed. Assists with emergency and inclement weather operations. Work schedule may include extended hours and/or 12-hour shifts.

Requirements

A bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology, or Construction Science and Management and five (5) years of engineering or construction management work experience; or an approved acceptable equivalence.

The physical demands for the essential functions of this position involve sitting or standing for extended periods of time. This position may require travel.

This position may require bending, stooping, reaching, twisting, climbing, balancing, and kneeling.

This position required driving and walking for extended periods, treading rough and uneven terrain, working in close proximity to motoring traffic, and natural environmental hazards.

May be required to work outside of normal work schedule, especially during inclement weather and/or other departmental-related emergencies.

This position may be exposed to outside environment in all weather conditions and noise.
