Full Job Description

In the Concrete, Steel, and Cement (CSC) Physical Testing unit at the Office of Materials and Research (OMR), performs routine testing on concrete cylinders, structural steel materials, and cementitious materials used in highway construction.

Ensures testing is performed in accordance with AASHTO, ASTM, and SC test methods.

Documents test results on appropriate reports and performs related tasks in AWP, Projectwise, and other applicable reporting applications.

Assists with performing calibrations, verifications, and maintenance on testing equipment to comply with the AASHTO Accreditation Program. Participates in accreditation assessment activities and proficiency sample programs as needed.

Trains to perform more complex testing on cement, flyash, and non-routine materials. Trains to assist with handling, storage and disposal of chemical waste related to laboratory testing.

Assists with administrative duties in the unit as needed. Assists in interpreting and analyzing data obtained from test results.

Assists with reviewing manufacturer certifications for materials and products related to the CSC Unit. Assists department personnel with materials related issues.

Performs other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

A high school diploma and one (1) year of experience that is related to the area of employment; or an approved acceptable equivalence. A valid motor vehicle operator's license is required.
