Seattle City Light, a department of the City of Seattle, is one of the nation’s largest municipally owned utilities in terms of the number of customers served.

Today, City Light is a recognized national leader in energy efficiency and environmental stewardship.

Seattle City Light's Customer Experience Division is hiring a Transportation Electrification Data Analyst to join our growing team.

This position will help leverage customer and programmatic data and analytics to support the organization in more efficiently and effectively delivering the products and services our customer desire.

The role will be responsible for building usable data tools for staff, as well as, supporting the analysis and evaluation of data sources to support City Light’s Transportation Electrification Strategic Investment Plan; including oversight of the Clean Fuel Standard.

The position uses quantitative, data management, and business intelligence techniques to solve analytical business problems, translate data into actionable insights, and communicate finding which help shape the utility’s policies and programs.

This position will report to the Data Analytics and Quality Assurance Manager in the Customer Experience Division.

Requirements

Here is more about what you’ll be doing:

  • Maintain data and reporting requirements outlined by the Clean Fuel Standard.
  • Elicit requirements from internal stakeholders to determine business needs for data sources or reporting and then translate these to data modeling, dashboard development, and report creation.
  • Develop tools (not just the business process) for data auditing.
  • Collect and clean customer data from various sources with an auditable process using R and/or Python programming.
  • Perform?extract, transform, and?load operations?from data sources?for modeling purposes.
  • Utilize knowledge of SQL, database procedures, and functions to develop highly complex operational reports for utility subject areas.
  • Use quantitative analysis techniques to collect, analyze, and detect patterns, rules,anomalies, clusters or statistically significant relationships in data from various sources,including unstructured data and disparate data sources.
  • Communicate findings through technical reports and presentations to internal stakeholders.
  • Discover the stories told by the data and present them to internal stakeholders.
  • Analyze, design, and develop complex Tableau dashboards per internal stakeholder requests.
  • Provide support to team members for code reviews and testing of queries and reports.
  • Train users on how to access and navigate through reports and dashboards.
  • Provide recommendations to Data Analytics and Quality Assurance Manager to inform the development and execution of a customer analytics strategy to support the Division’s broader customer experience strategy.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications: In addition to the skills and experience mentioned below, a successful applicant will have experience that reflects a commitment to creating fair and equitable outcomes and has:

Experience: Requires two years in systems, operational, procedures, research or analysis.

Education: Bachelor's degree in business or public administration, finance, computer science or a related field (or a combination of education, training and/or experience that provides an equivalent background required to perform the work of the class).

Desired Qualifications - You will be successful if you have the following experience, skills, and abilities:

Demonstrates proficiency with:

  • Common programming languages (such as SQL) used in major relational database management systems (such as Oracle).
  • Data analytics software packages including R and Python
  • Microsoft products, including SQL Server and Excel.
  • Data visualization software such as Tableau.

Demonstrates experience with:

  • Principles and practices of data analysis, including the collection, cleaning, modeling and interpretation of data.
  • Utility industry data systems and business processes.
  • Effectively communicating complex ideas to varied audiences.
  • Working independently and utilizing intellectual curiosity to take appropriate level of initiative.

The full salary range for this position is $47.39 to $55.19 per hour.
