Job Description

Summary

This job involves helping Navy personnel and their families manage the shipment and storage of household goods during moves, including advising on options, entitlements, and costs while ensuring moving companies follow government rules.

A good fit would be someone with customer service experience in logistics or transportation, who is detail-oriented and comfortable explaining complex procedures to people under stress.

It requires at least one year of relevant experience to handle inquiries, resolve issues, and oversee compliance.

Key Requirements

Full Job Description

You will serve as a TRANSPORTATION ASSISTANT (Quality Assurance Inspector/Counselor) in the Navy Household Goods/Personal Property Shipping Office (HHG/PPSO) Store Front Section of NAVSUP FLEET LOGISTICS CENTER JACKSONVILLE.

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of experience at or equivalent to the GS-06 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector.

Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Performing work applying an extensive body of transportation regulations, methods and practices to perform a variety of interrelated or nonstandard transportation support assignments and resolving problems/issues related to the movement and storage of personal property.

Examples of qualifying experience include the following: 1) Performing a wide range of personal property shipment management functions including household goods entitlements, personal property counseling, inbound and outbound shipment management, temporary storage and non-temporary storage; 2) Determining and advising on entitlements or procedures related to the type of quantity of personal property that can be moved at government expense, storage entitlements, mover's liabilities and prohibited items; 3) Serving as point of contact to resolve problems and ensure that the work of Transportation Providers and/or contactors engaged in the physical handling and movement of household goods comply with applicable specifications and regulations.

  • You will communicate with members/employees, their dependents or agents to elicit their shipment needs.
  • You will explain shipment and storage options, excess costs and special procedures for shipments.
  • You will ensure that the work of Transportation Service Providers engaged in the physical handling and movement of household goods comply with applicable service tenders, contract specifications and other government regulations.
  • You will provide assistance by answering questions, providing claims information, determining pre-approved accessorial services and/or initiating shipment change requests.
