Job Description

Summary

Full Job Description

Supports the State Maintenance Engineer and Maintenance field offices by providing and maintaining resources, guidance, and information that promotes consistency in statewide operations. Maintains and updates DOM intranet resources, assists in developing policies and guidance. Supports field maintenance offices with through customer service, communication, and problem-solving to investigate/resolve issues while helping to create efficiencies in maintenance operations. Acts as liaison with statewide vendors and represents the DOM Office at meetings, trainings, and events.

Coordinates and maintains a Quality Management Program to assess and support maintenance operations. Provides management oversight to ensure that the program aligns with the mission, ensures that reviews are thoroughly conducted on schedule, with all findings, data, and outcomes documented and summarized at the end of each cycle.

Provides management oversight of the State Sign Shop to ensure efficient daily operations and timely delivery of sign materials to counties. Plans and documents budget needs and expenditures. Maintains communication with field sign personnel and acts as liaison to assist with sign-related support and problem resolution for sign operations statewide.

Manages the statewide inspection initiatives within the DOM to ensure consistency and coordination between field offices and the Director of Maintenance Office. Develops and oversees data collection programs used for analysis and statewide maintenance operational assessments. Ensures accuracy and timely reporting of inspection data.

Serves on state and national committees related to roadway maintenance. Provides input and feedback to partner DOTs and participates in internal SCDOT committees related to maintenance operations, innovation, and new product evaluation. Develops and presents information, data, and recommendations as needed.

Assists the DOM office in serving the Department's needs during hurricanes, winter weather, and major storm events. Coordinates deployment of crews to affected areas, supports contractor and material/supply logistics, and ensures consistent communication of daily operational details. Participates in emergency operation planning, training, and preparedness activities to ensure readiness and effective statewide response.

Assists the State Maintenance Engineer in completing special projects, assignments, and requests from DOM or SCDOT Executive staff in a timely and professional manner. Provides support across Maintenance functional areas as needed to ensure continuity of statewide operations. Performs other related duties as assigned.










Requirements

A bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology, or Construction Science and Management and five (5) years of engineering or construction management work experience; or an approved acceptable equivalence. A valid motor vehicle operator's license is required.

The physical demands for the essential functions involves sitting or standing at a desk for extended periods of time. This position may require occasional travel. May require bending, stooping, reaching, twisting, climbing, balancing, and kneeling. Walking for extended periods, treading rough terrain, working in close proximity to motoring traffic, and in natural environmental hazards. May be required to work outside normal business hours or respond to emergency situations.
