UDOT Logo.JPG

The Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) is seeking a motivated and collaborative Transit Project Manager to join UDOT’s Transit Division. This position will play a vital role in delivering the FrontRunner Forward Program, with a near-term focus on the FrontRunner 2X projects and a long term focus of project management of multiple fixed guideway projects across Northern Utah. The FR2X efforts will expand double-track rail, add new stations, reconfigure facilities, and procure new transit sets, strengthening Utah’s passenger rail system.

UDOT will be leading the FR2X effort in close cooperation with the Utah Transit Authority (UTA). UDOT will lead the design and construction and UTA will be the final owner and operator. This key position will work closely with FR2X Project Director and UDOT Executive leadership to chart a course of action to deliver these key projects. This is an EM1 Position.

Following a successful Full Funding Grant Agreement from the Federal Transit Administration on the FR2X project, this position will transition to working on fixed guideway transit projects across UDOT Regions 1, 2 and 3 that utilize state monies.

Principal Duties

As a Transit Project Manager, you will:
  • Lead coordination between UDOT, the progressive design-builder, and UTA to ensure timely preconstruction issue resolution.
  • Coordinate with third parties, municipalities, and other stakeholders to advance program goals.
  • Assist in developing and implementing Phase II construction contract for FrontRunner 2X progressive design-builder.
  • Oversee compliance with federal contract requirements, FTA capital investment grant standards, and project plans.
  • Support the development and execution of contracts for rolling stock and facility modifications.
  • Provide strategic input for successful program delivery and long-term FrontRunner improvements.
  • Monitor preconstruction budgets, schedules, and risks to ensure quality outcomes and timely delivery.
  • Prepare and present updates to project leadership.

Minimum Qualifications
In order to qualify, you must have all of the following:
  • Must be currently registered as a Professional Engineer (PE) in Utah.
  • Have a minimum of two (2) years of professional engineering experience following licensure as a PE.
  • Have a valid driver's license.
  • Demonstrate strong knowledge of federal contracting and compliance standards.
  • Possess excellent communication, facilitation, and organizational skills.
  • Be a proactive self-starter capable of working independently and in a collaborative team environment.

Preferences
Preference may be given to those with at least one of the following:
  • Previous work on federally funded transit projects.
  • Experience coordinating with local governments, utilities, and large stakeholder groups.

Supplemental Information
Please review these important details:
  • Travel: May involve occasional evening or weekend work to meet project demands.
  • Work Environment
    • Working Conditions: This position primarily involves work in a typical, climate-controlled office setting that is adequately lighted, heated, and ventilated. Standard office safety practices (e.g., safe use of equipment, observing fire regulations) apply.
    • Physical Requirements: The work is largely sedentary (sitting comfortably to perform work). However, the role may require some walking, standing, bending, carrying light items, or driving a vehicle.
