Job Description

Summary

This job is for a part-time teacher who helps students improve their reading skills through a specific college course, working with a mix of young high school students and adults in both in-person and online settings.

The role involves following a set lesson plan, using different teaching techniques to help students succeed, grading work online, and contributing to ongoing improvements in the program.

Key Requirements

  • Master’s degree in Reading or related field, or master’s in any discipline with 12-15 semester hours in Reading, Language Arts, English, or Literature
  • Reading Specialist certification or higher credential in teaching Reading
  • Baccalaureate degree in Reading, Reading Education, Language Arts, Secondary English Education, English, or Literature
  • Demonstrated ability to work with diverse populations across abilities, ages, nationalities, and cultures
  • Teaching experience at a two-year college or in adult education
  • Experience using instructional technology and implementing innovative teaching strategies
  • Ability to teach varying schedules and locations, face-to-face or virtually

Full Job Description

Teach Critical Reading (RDG 100) courses to a diverse student body, including Early College High School students. Teaching varying schedules and locations, either face-to-face or virtually. The adjunct instructor will follow the established syllabus, using multiple instructional methods that emphasize student success and retention, assessing learning, utilizing the college’s learning management system for grading and various instructional purposes, and participating in the department’s continuous improvement process

Requirements

Baccalaureate degree in Reading, Reading Education, Language Arts, Secondary English Education, English, or Literature.

Qualifications

Master’s degree in Reading, master’s degree in any discipline with twelve to fifteen semester hours in Reading, Reading Education, Language Arts, Secondary English, English Education, English, or Literature. Reading Specialist certification, or a higher credential in the teaching of Reading. Demonstrated ability to work with diverse populations representing a wide range of abilities, ages, nationalities, and cultures. Teaching experience at a two-year college and/or teaching experience in adult education. Experience teaching with instructional technology, knowledge of, and demonstrated ability to implement innovative teaching strategies.
