Summary

This job involves maintaining, repairing, and installing traffic signals and related equipment like bulbs, timers, and wiring, often in response to trouble calls or during inspections.

Full Job Description

Under general supervision, performs maintenance installation, repair and inspection work on traffic signals and signal posts; and does related work as required.

Requirements

Answers trouble calls, performing such work as changing bulbs, relays or fuses on traffic signals; when timers are defective, tests and, if necessary, changes or installs new timers. Applies proper tests for troubles on wiring both exterior and in the control box. Installs any signal equipment such as complete signal assemblies with posts; or incidental equipment and appurtenances where posts are already installed. Inspects and makes minor repairs and adjustments of traffic signal controllers; inspects and maintains police spotlights. Repairs damaged equipment in the shop, including replacing of parts and repairing of relays. Inspects and maintains bridge flashers, either AC or DC type. Assists in the installation and replacement of Traffic Signal Mast Arms when necessary. Operates various motor vehicles up to five ton capacity. Loads and unloads necessary tools and equipment on trucks. Operates hydraulic ladder on truck. Performs related duties as required.

Qualifications

2 years of experience required in related work. Massachusetts CDL with airbrake endorsement required. Massachusetts Public Safety Hoisting License Class 1B required. Must be a resident of the city of Boston.
