Full Job Description

Directs a crew of Traffic Control Electricians and related personnel in inspecting, maintaining, installing, and repairing traffic control equipment and fixtures.

Department: Mobility and Infrastructure

Salary: $74,048 per year.
Union: This position is included in the American Federation of State, County, and Municipal Employees, Local 2037 bargaining unit and will be filled in accordance with the provisions of the Collective Bargaining Agreement.

Civil Service Classification: Non-Competitive

    Qualifying Requirements:

    Your City of Pittsburgh application will be reviewed, and your work experience and education/training will be evaluated to determine if you meet the qualifying eligibility requirements listed below for this position. You will be sent an eligibility letter regarding your eligible/ineligible status.

    • WORK EXPERIENCE: The application must clearly show three (3) years of full-time experience in traffic signal installation or maintenance or a related field. (Less than full-time will be calculated on a pro-rated basis).

    • EDUCATION/TRAINING: The application must clearly show an Associate's Degree from a fully accredited institution in Electrical Engineering, or a related field. (See NOTE under the General Application Requirements Section above regarding the verification of education/training).

    • EQUIVALENCY: Education/training may be substituted for work experience on a year-for-year basis if the application clearly shows the required number of years to meet the Total Qualifying Requirement for this position (based on the sum of work experience and education/training listed above).

      The Total Qualifying Requirement is three (3) years. (See NOTE under the General Application Requirements Section above regarding the verification of education/training).

      Additional Information

      • Supervises and directs Traffic Control Electricians 1 and 2 in inspecting, maintaining, installing and repairing electronic equipment, fixtures and circuit boards, traffic installations, etc.
      • Evaluates work of assigned personnel; recommends and implements approved disciplinary and corrective action.
      • Schedules work of assigned personnel; provides technical assistance as requested or required.
      • Locates problems and directs the repair of underground and overhead cables and wire; directs the removal of tree branches interfering with lines and wires.
      • Estimates time and materials required for the job; requisitions job materials and supplies.
      • Ensures that appropriate safety precautions and procedures are followed.
      • Prepares accurate reports regarding work performed, employee attendance, etc.
      • Works shifts as requested or required.
      • Plans, develops, directs, coordinates, organizes and controls the materials, equipment and personnel under jurisdiction toward the effective, efficient and economical attainment of program goals, including maximum convenience to the public and safety of employees.
      • Manages area of responsibility in strict accordance with applicable laws, regulations and established policy including union agreements to ensure fair and standardized treatment of employees.
      • Performs activities and functions of related lower-level personnel as assigned or required.
      • Performs such other related tasks and duties that are assigned or required.
      • Plans, monitors and evaluates the work of self and others.
      • Communicates effectively, both orally and in writing.
      • Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with supervisors, associates and the general public.
