The County of Riverside’s Human Resources Temporary Assignment Program (TAP) seeks to fill Temporary Senior Food Service Worker position to support Riverside University Health Systems - Medical Center in Moreno Valley, California.

Under general supervision, performs the more difficult, semi-skilled tasks related to the preparation and serving of food; serves as a lead worker over Food Service Workers performing routine clean up, food preparation, and serving tasks; performs other related duties as required. The Senior Food Service Worker is the lead level classification in the Food Service Worker series and reports to a Food and Nutrition Services Supervisor. Incumbents exercise a high degree of independent judgment, provide oversight to subordinate staff, and perform the more complex assignments that require extensive knowledge and proficiency. Positions performing the more skilled assignments are subject to less supervision and are characterized by having one of the following as their primary assignments: vegetable preparation, salad preparation, cafeteria service, diet card recording, or nourishment. Incumbents may act as a project lead and provide task supervision and training for Food Service Workers assigned to the kitchen, ensuring adherence to work standards, including safety and sanitation.

The ideal candidate will have over one year of experience in food preparation and service and be available to work shifts from 11:30 AM to 8:00 PM or 12:30 PM to 9:00 PM, with flexibility to work morning shifts as needed from 4:30 AM to 1:00 PM or 6:00 AM to 2:30 PM.

Requirements

• When assigned to perform the more skilled duties, follow standard recipes in the preparation of salads, desserts and baked goods.

• Serve food and drinks in cafeteria; serve customers; clean coffee pots, grill, counter, and cafeteria tables; prepare coffee, toast, eggs, and sandwiches.

• Set up and serve special dinners; push loaded food carts from kitchen to units or dining hall, returning them to kitchen after meals; operate dishwashing machine; wash pots and pans.

• Prepare and serve patient meal trays; utilizing diet software, take meal orders and assist patients with selecting meals as needed; generate meal tickets for patients.

• When serving in a lead capacity: observe and inspect the work of Food Service Workers involved in the preparation and serving of food and clean-up activities, ensuring adherence to safety and sanitation regulations and practices, and verifying work is accomplished properly and efficiently.

• Provide technical supervision and guidance to improve the quality and quantity of work performed by Food Service Workers; assist in on-the-job training of Food Service Workers in a variety of assignments.

• Assist in the supervision of tray line workers preparing food trays for patients or wards; ensure accuracy of diet and proper portions, appearance and arrangement of food on trays.

• Obtain and record temperature of food, ensuring proper temperature controls in the transportation of food.

• May retrieve food items from supply room and or refrigerator/freezer for production purposes; may sweep and mop floors and remove trash from designated work areas.

• Perform Food Service Worker duties as necessary; may prepare and submit documented incident reports.

Qualifications

Education: Graduation from high school or attainment of a satisfactory score on a G.E.D. test.

Experience: One year in the preparation and serving of food.

Knowledge of: The methods, practices, utensils, and equipment used in serving food and clean-up activities (e.g., food and dish carts and dishwashers); the techniques, utensils, knives, and equipment used for chopping, slicing, mixing, and measuring foodstuff used in preparing food; sanitation methods and practices associated with food handling and maintaining cleanliness of kitchen and food serving areas and equipment; occupational hazards and safety precautions of kitchen and food service areas and equipment; the preparation and serving of food for special diets.

Ability to: Read, understand and follow oral and written instructions in English; write simple diet menu instructions; perform simple mathematical calculations; be courteous and tactful with staff members; instruct and train others in the methods and techniques used in serving food and clean-up activities; provide clear and concise oral instructions; maintain effective working relationships with others; prepare and maintain simple records pertaining to food service quality control; supervise, coordinate and inspect the work of Food Service Workers.

License/Certificate: Possession of a valid California Driver's License may be required.

Based upon assignment, Riverside University Health System - Medical Center applicants may be required to possess a Food Service Handler's Certificate as issued by the County of Riverside Department of Environmental Health.

Depending on the department assigned, Stock Clerks may be required to safely and efficiently drive vehicles (e.g., cars, vans, pick-up trucks, stake side and cargo delivery trucks) on public roads and highways as part of their regular duties:

As such, incumbents will submit a Riverside County General Form #30, "Authorization to Drive a Riverside County Vehicle or Private Car for County Business" upon hire, which subjects them to the DMV Employer Pull Notice (EPN) Program during their employment.
