Job Description

Summary

This temporary job helps run elections by entering voter data, verifying mail-in ballots, answering calls from the public, and checking translations of election materials into languages like Korean or Vietnamese.

It's ideal for people with customer service experience who speak English fluently plus one specific other language, and who can handle a busy schedule including weekends and overtime.

The role supports the county's voting process during the 2026 primary election.

Key Requirements

  • Bilingual proficiency in English and one of: Korean, Vietnamese, Chinese Mandarin, Chinese Cantonese, Tagalog, Hmong, Japanese, Punjabi, or Urdu (strong reading, writing, proofing, and speaking skills)
  • Customer service experience involving public interaction, recording information, or explaining rules and procedures
  • Ability to perform data entry, such as voter registration cards and vote-by-mail verification
  • Skills in answering phones and providing election information to the public
  • Proficiency in proofing candidate statements and ballot information for accurate translations
  • Availability for a schedule of 8:00am - 5:00pm Monday-Friday, plus weekends, holidays, and mandatory overtime
  • Ability to follow instructions, perform routine clerical work, and maintain cooperative relations

The County of Riverside's Human Resources Temporary Assignment Program seeks Temporary Elections Assistants (TEAs)
to support the Registrar of Voters upcoming June 2, 2026, Statewide Direct Primary Election.
There are multiple positions available, please see below for more details.

Schedule: 8:00am - 5:00pm Monday - Friday, including weekends, and holidays with mandatory overtime.

Requirements

To serve the voting and candidate public by performing a variety of election services and to perform other duties and services, as assigned, within the confines of the Registrar of Voters.


  • DATA ENTRY/PHONES: Primary duties will include registration card entry, vote-by-mail verification, answering phones, and proofing candidate statements and ballot information to ensure translation is correct from English to: Korean, Vietnamese, Chinese Mandarin, Chinese Cantonese, Tagalog, Hmong, Japanese, Punjabi or Urdu.
  • Strong customer service skills are required.
  • Strong bilingual reading, writing, proofing, and speaking ability skills are required.
  • Candidates must be proficient in their respective language and proficient in English, speaking and writing.

Qualifications

Experience: Customer service experience that involved meeting the public, obtaining and recording factual information, or explaining rules, regulations, policies/procedures, AND must be bilingual in one of the following languages:

  1. Korean
  2. Vietnamese
  3. Chinese Mandarin
  4. Chinese Cantonese
  5. Tagalog
  6. Hmong
  7. Japanese
  8. Punjabi
  9. Urdu
Knowledge: Perform routine clerical work; learn office practices, procedures and equipment; make simple arithmetic calculations; understand and follow written and oral instructions; establish and maintain cooperative relations with the public.

Ability to: Perform general clerical work; Understand and follow both written and oral instructions as well as established policies and procedures; Perform non-sedentary duties; Regularly lift over 25 pounds; Work in a fast-paced environment

License/Certificate: Possession of a valid California Driver's License may be required.

Additional Information

Testing Requirements:
Bilingual Proficiency: Candidates whose applications indicate bilingual proficiency in one of the following languages: Korean, Vietnamese, Chinese Mandarin, Chinese Cantonese, Tagalog, Hmong, Japanese, Punjabi or Urdu will be required to verify their bilingual skills in a proctored test environment.

PLEASE NOTE: Appointees will be required to work any shift, including evenings, weekends, and holidays with mandatory overtime as needed.
