The City of Spokane, (WTE) Transfer Station invites applicants to apply for the position of Temporary Seasonal Site Attendant!

The Waste to Energy (WTE) Transfer Station provides clean and convenient, one-stop drop locations for yard waste, food waste, trash, recycling, and household hazardous waste.

Requirements

The following Responsibilities and Requirements are functions the individual who holds or desires the position must be able to perform unaided or with the assistance of a reasonable accommodation.
  • The incumbent in this position will work directly with the public in ensuring that processes and procedures are followed in the disposal of waste materials.
  • Aids customers on the tipping floor and recycling center, in the disposal of solid waste and recycling materials.
  • Greets customers and directs them to the appropriate waste disposal bay.
  • Walks the yard waste bay and inspects customers yard waste to ensure that only the appropriate materials aredisposed.
  • Performs routine site cleanup and grounds maintenance.
  • Sorts recyclables into the appropriate recycling bins.
  • Performs other tasks as needed or required by the department.

Qualifications

REQUIREMENTS OF WORK
  • Must possess a valid driver's license without restrictions
  • Must be able to pass a drug test
  • Lift and manipulate heavy objects up to 50lbs, including chemicals, motor oil and other recyclable materials.
Knowledge of:
  • Solid waste disposal materials, such as recyclables, chemicals, general and yard waste.
  • Understanding of the importance of excellent customer service.
  • Understanding of occupational safety hazards.
  • Safe use of hand and yard maintenance tools.
  • Directing traffic and customers to designated disposal areas.
  • Understanding of chemicals and Safety Hazard Data Sheets.
Ability to:
  • Perform routine and repetitive tasks with limited supervision.
  • Direct traffic and customers safely to the designated waste disposal area.
  • Understand and follow required safety procedures, including wearing PPE.
  • Operate hand tools, yard cleaning tools and other minor maintenance tools.
  • Lift and manipulate heavy objects up to 50lbs, including chemicals, motor oil and other recyclable materials.
  • Communicate effectively with customers, supervisors, and co-workers in a clear and concise manner.
  • Perform routine maintenance activities.
  • Work a flexible schedule including every weekend between the hours of 7:00 am -5:30 pm.
  • Stand for long periods of time on hard surfaces such as concrete.
  • Tolerance to work under adverse conditions, with exposure to dust, dirt, and cleaning agent odors.
