Requirements

You will be an integral part of our team performing various maintenance functions across Pierce County.

Some of those tasks include flagging, cleaning, landscaping, inventory management, construction work around manholes, concrete work, road work, bagging fertilizer, and maintaining road signs and lights As a temporary worker, you will enjoy a regular schedule Monday – Friday (The work will change to 4-10’s for summertime, Monday to Thursday OR Tuesday to Friday.) You can count on Pierce County to provide PPE, tools, and a safe place to work.

You will work out of various Pierce County locations to include Frederickson, Bonney Lake, Puyallup, University Place, and Purdy.

This position may require daily driving of a Pierce County vehicle therefore a SAFE driving record is a must.

Core daily responsibilities:

  • Set up MUTCD compliant work zones for road maintenance crews.
  • Serve as Washington state certified flagger safely guiding and directing traffic through work zones.
  • Provide manual labor/support for traffic operations programs including pavement markings, raised pavement markers, roadway striping, and other duties as assigned in road maintenance.
  • Maintain and safely operate small power tools and landscape equipment.
  • Work is performed outside sometimes under adverse weather conditions.
  • Work reporting location may vary depending on job location.
  • Perform routine pump station inspections, making repairs.
  • Assist in treatment plant cleaning by hosing roto-strainers, weirs, clarifiers, digesters, dumpster areas and walkways.

Qualifications

  • Experience performing skilled or semi-skilled labor such as traffic operations, road maintenance, landscaping, construction, or similar work.
  • A valid driver's license is required for this position.
