JOIN OUR SUMMER STAFF!
Spend your summer helping people enjoy the beautiful & Scenic Little Spokane River Natural Area!

This individual will be responsible for being one of two staff who operate the Little Spokane River Shuttle Service and Kayak rentals. This position requires the ability to lift up to 50 pounds to load and unload personal watercraft (canoe, kayak, or standup paddleboard) onto a trailer. Staff will transport people and watercraft from the Nine Mile take-out to the Saint George's put-in. The Kayak Rental Program involves transporting, unloading, staging, and securing rental kayak equipment. Shuttling and educating kayak rental participants.

Requirements

The following Responsibilities and Requirements are functions the individual who holds or desires the position must be able to perform unaided or with the assistance of a reasonable accommodation.

This individual will be responsible for maintaining a risk-reduced environment, interacting with the public, and representing the agency in a positive manner. The shuttle will run every Saturday and Sunday from early July to early September. Scheduled hours for this individual will be every Saturday and Sunday from 7:30am-5:00pm or 5:30pm, with overtime after 8 hours each day.

WORK RELATED REQUIREMENTS:
  • Commitment to all or most of the scheduled dates.
  • Ability to adapt to changing circumstances, and flexible enough to make accommodations for unforeseen events.
  • Have excellent communication, leadership, decision-making skills, and a confident ability to speak with the public and provide good customer service.
  • A background in outdoor recreation facilitation, teaching or related field.
Requirements of work (with or without reasonable accommodation):
  • The stamina to stand for long periods time.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds throughout the day loading boats on a trailer.

Qualifications

  • Must be at least 18 years of age at time of appointment.
  • Possess a valid driver’s license and verification of identity and eligibility to work in the United States.
  • Valid CPR & 1st Aid Certifications. Preferred but can be obtained after being hired.
  • Pass background check.
  • Pass drug test. Includes testing for cannabis.
This role is considered a safety-sensitive position for which impairment while working presents a substantial risk of death. You must successfully complete a selection process that includes interviews, a criminal background check, a pre-employment drug screen, reference verifications, aptitude tests (for some positions) and a physical and lift test (for some positions).
