Job Description

Summary

This job involves troubleshooting complex telecommunications and computer network issues for military operations in the Pacific region, helping resolve service requests and coordinating equipment needs for users.

It supports the US Cyber Command by managing and improving communication systems.

A good fit would be someone with technical experience in telecom or IT, strong problem-solving skills, and an interest in defense-related work.

Key Requirements

  • Undergraduate or graduate degree in electrical/electronic engineering, computer science, telecommunications management, or related field
  • Specialized experience in evaluating, analyzing, developing, or managing communications systems and technologies
  • At least one year of experience equivalent to GG-11 level, including handling DISN service requests and resolving pre-service or customer issues
  • Knowledge of current trends in telecommunications concepts and technology
  • Ability to interpret directives, develop policies, and coordinate user requirements for telecom equipment and services
  • Experience in the Pacific theater or with long-line telecommunications preferred

Full Job Description

This position is being recruited under 10 USC 1599f into the Cyber Excepted Service and does NOT convey eligibility to be converted to the Competitive Service.

It has been identified as a position necessary to carry out and support the mission of the US Cyber Command.

It is in the Professional Work Category at the Senior Work Level within the CES Occupational Structure. It is located in the DISA PAC Infrastructure & Services Division, Request Fulfillment Branch.

In order to qualify for this position, you must meet the requirements described below.

Basic Requirements: Undergraduate and Graduate Education: Major study -- electrical or electronic engineering, mathematics, physics, public utilities, statistics, computer science, telecommunications management, information systems management, business administration, industrial management, or other fields related to the position to be filled Other Education: Communications/electronics or automatic data processing training in technical institutes or business schools above the high school level or in Armed Forces schools that included advanced instruction in addition to basic courses, may be substituted for general experience on a month-for-month basis.

OR Specialized Experience: Experience in evaluating, analyzing, developing, managing, or improving communications systems, procedures, and requirements that demonstrated knowledge of current developments and trends in communications concepts and technology.

Qualifying Experience: To qualify at the GG-12, your resume must describe at least one year of experience that demonstrates the competencies necessary for immediate success in the position.

Experience refers to any paid or unpaid experience, including volunteer work and Military service, that would be considered equivalent to work normally performed at the next lower grade level in the federal service.

For this position, qualifying experience is defined as experience with telecommunication technologies, addressing various DISN service request concerns/issues by providing resolution/assistance for various pre-service/network or customer related issues.

  • Solves difficult, unusual, and complex long-line telecommunications-computer Telecommunications Service Requests and Telecommunication Service Orders (TSR/TSO) in the Pacific theater.
  • Makes recommendations and participates in the development of new or changed policies.
  • Interprets and implements established directives and guidelines.
  • Coordinates, plans, and satisfies user requirements for computer-telecommunications equipment, circuits, systems, or services.
