The Washington State Attorney General's Office's Tacoma Division has an immediate opening for a Team Leader in the Department of Children, Youth and Families (DCYF) Section.
The Team Leader reports directly to Tacoma’s DCYF Section Chief and is one of four DCYF team leaders responsible for oversight of legal services provided on behalf of the Department of Children, Youth and Families in Pierce and Kitsap Counties.
The DCYF Section in Tacoma is comprised of 26 AAGs, 24 paralegals, and 5 legal office assistants.
The position does carry a caseload, is responsible for the direct supervision of AAGs, and is a member of the Tacoma Division’s Management Team. This position is part of the Pierce Team.
The Team Leader's caseload is mostly comprised of juvenile litigation cases that are, by their very nature, emergent and emotionally charged.
The attorney will be required to work under pressure and stress and must often make prompt and timely evaluations of the facts and evidence and prepare persuasive arguments quickly.
The attorney is responsible for all aspects of the assigned caseload, including reviewing the file, preparing for hearings/trial, submitting and responding to discovery, submitting relevant briefs, motions and other pleadings, considering settlement options, keeping the client and other parties informed and meeting all case schedule deadlines.
This position may be asked to handle the subsequent appeals from their litigation caseload.
This position also requires that the individual be able to assist other attorneys general in all forms of juvenile practice as needed.
Cases assigned may also include contested adoptions under RCW Chapter 26.33, family law matters under Title 26, and public disclosure/confidentiality issues.
The position handles matters brought in Kitsap and Pierce counties.
This position advises and represents the Department of Children Youth and Families (DCYF) in court proceedings and through appeal, requiring familiarity and knowledge of applicable rules, statutes, and procedures.
This Managing Assistant Attorney General 1 position is represented by the Association of Washington Assistant Attorneys General (AWAAG) / Washington Federation of State Employees (WFSE) AFSCME Council 28, AFL-CIO.
Managing AAG 1 salaries are set between $86,328 and $161,700. The exact amount is set in accordance with Appendix B of the AWAAG CBA.
