Requirements

The Office of the Commissioner of the Revenue is currently seeking applicants for a Tax Exemptions and Deferrals Specialist I. The successful candidate must have great organizational, time management and customer service skills with ability to manage a high volume of applications and work under deadlines. The Specialist I will join a team of six other program specialists responsible for administration of the following County exemptions and deferrals programs: tax relief for elderly and disabled, tax exemption programs for disabled veterans and surviving spouses of members of the armed forces, tax exemptions for revitalized real estate, tax exemptions for solar equipment, tax exemptions by designation and/or classification and land use assessment.

Other duties include:
  • Guides the public through the entire pre-screen, application, qualification determination and recertification process, advises on scenarios based upon fact patterns presented to them and how they may affect said exemption or deferral program.
  • Processes exemption and deferral applications.
  • Ensures the equitable treatment of all property owners and organizations applying for, or potentially entitled to, a tax deferral or exemption from real or personal property taxation.
  • Responds to inquiries in person, by telephone, e-mail, and in writing as needed in a friendly, informative, accurate, and timely manner (i.e. to general public, property owners, nonprofit organizations, potential sellers and purchasers, real estate agents and settlement attorneys).
  • Maintains knowledge and assists with the administration of the other tax exemption and deferral programs administered by the Division.
Hiring salary will be commensurate with experience.

Qualifications

Requires any combination of education and experience equivalent to an associate’s degree and two (2) years of experience in Finance, Taxation or related field.

Bilingual language skills preferred.

Additional Information

Successful candidate will undergo and complete criminal, credit, and DMV background checks. Valid driver’s license and good driving record (driving records may be reviewed annually for continued qualification).
