The position is in Storage and Data Protection Systems under the Enterprise Operations Directorate, House Information Resources (HIR), Office of the Chief Administrative Officer (CAO), U.S.
House of Representatives (House). The Enterprise Operations Directorate provides IT and support services to the House community.
This position serves as a Systems Engineer for Enterprise Data Storage Systems, Storage Area Networks and Data Protection & Recovery for on-premise and cloud data centers.
Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in computer science/engineering, Information Systems, Information Technology, degree with 5+ years of relevant storage experience as an Information Technology professional in an organization.
Must be able to secure and maintain Federal Government security clearances as deemed appropriate.
This position requires the candidate to be proficient in Commvault and interconnectivity to a variety of systems (Physical and Virtual Server and OS platforms VMware, Unix, Windows, Kubernetes container environments and databases including MSSQL and Oracle).
The candidate must have work experience in Data Storage Systems Administration, Enterprise Server operations, Data Center Operations, BC/DR, and Enterprise Data Protection and recovery including Backups, Snapshots and Data Replication.
Must be a US Citizen or LPR on path to US Citizenship.
Knowledge, Skill, and Ability (KSA) and Competency Requirements: Possess 5+ years of experience in Data Protection technologies, Architectures, Design, Administration and Support of data protection systems in a data center environment.
Evaluation, implementation, and management of production data protection systems with Commvault data protection software, as well as Commvault Hyperscale preferred Understanding of integration and workload protection of/with AWS, PURE FlashArray & FlashBlade, and NetApp targets.
Implementation and management of enterprise data protection and recovery systems.
Communicating technical topics to elected officials, senior executives, managers, and IT professionals in a manner appropriate to their knowledge level.
Ability to comprehend and integrate complex computer technology and software into an effective enterprise data protection and recovery strategy.
Maintaining effective working relationships with colleagues, users, contractors, and vendors. Relevant operating systems security (Windows, ESX, Solaris, Linux, etc.).
Strong analytical and problem solving skills to troubleshoot and resolve issues with network/operating systems.
Experience with a combination of NetApp/PURE Snapshots, Oracle Cloud, AWS S3 & EC2, GCP, Commvault Metallic, and/or Microsoft cloud (Azure, O365, Teams, SharePoint) Scripting using ansible, python, PowerShell or other relevant experience.
Preferred KSA Qualifications: Understanding of VMware ESX; vSphere; vCenter Understanding of cloud technologies (backup and target) Understanding of IT security and encryption technologies Understanding of Network Attached Storage (NAS) technologies Understanding of block and object storage Understanding of BCDR procedures Understanding of DFS Understanding of Converged infrastructure technologies Understanding of Data center layout and designs Knowledge of Hybrid, private, and public clouds Understanding of Active/Active configurations Understanding of Kubernetes and containers Physical Requirements and Work Environment: This position requires the ability to work shifts to provide technical support 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, participate in an On-Call rotation and be available on-demand to address technical problems and support after-hours and weekend maintenance activities on a needed basis.
This position requires occasional travel to multiple locations, as assigned. This position requires employee work from Onsite and as determined by CAO from time to time at the discretion of supervisor.
This position requires occasional travel and the ability to lift and carry weights up to 50 lbs. This position is located in an office setting that is adequately heated, lighted, and ventilated.
Normal safety precautions apply. The incumbent must be able to meet physical requirements (lifting, bending, crouching, standing, etc.).
Security Requirements: This position requires unescorted access to secure offsite locations which require an identification badge. In order to be approved for the applicable badge, you must be a U.S.

Job Summary: The Office of the Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) provides operations support services and business solutions to the community of 10,000 House Members, Officers and staff.
The CAO organization comprises more than 800 technical and administrative staff working in a variety of areas, including information technology, finance, budget management, human resources, payroll, childcare, food and vending, procurement, logistics and administrative counsel.
This position is located in Enterprise Storage and Data Protection Systems Branch under Enterprise Operations Directorate, House Information Resources (HIR), Office of the Chief Administrative Officer (CAO), U.S.
House of Representatives (House). The Enterprise Operations Directorate provides information technology and support services to the House community.
This position serves as the Systems Engineer specializing in Enterprise Data Storage Systems, Storage Area Networks and Data Protection & Recovery technologies on-premises and in cloud data centers.
Key responsibilities include supporting Members, Committees, House Systems & applications, providing solutions, resolving information technology issues; and keeping the environment up to date and ensuring high availability.
Primary Duties/Responsibilities: Deliver exceptional services to House via a stable, reliable and secure environment.
Respond, diagnose and remediate issues affecting production availability in a dynamic environment Support day-to-day operations.
Implement, configure and maintain data protection solutions in Virtual and Physical environments; Conduct proof of concepts, Maintain environment with current releases of firmware and operating systems up to date Installs, maintains, configures, monitors, and supports all hardware systems and software components on the applicable platforms.
Generate and compile Performance and Capacity reports and metrics. Must demonstrate willingness and aptitude to continually learn and adapt to new technologies.
Demonstrate effective ticket queue etiquette by consistently resolving tickets in a timely manner and communicate promptly using email.
Maintain accurate and precise ticket notes within each assigned service ticket that effectively relay what occurred while supporting the ticket and the outcome and/or path forward.
Troubleshooting and analytical skills; ability to anticipate and resolve technical problems in a data protection environment.
Collaborate and Interact with other internal HIR Teams and external vendors as assigned. Act as a facilitator for team meetings on a rotating basis, as assigned.
Perform training sessions that will be resourceful and provide additional knowledge on a variety of technical topics for peers.
Develop, maintain and assist in writing, structuring, and organizing technical documentation and standard operating procedures Provides technical advice to management regarding future and directions as server and network technologies continue to evolve Acts as an internal consultant providing technical guidance on the most complex projects; regularly provides technical leadership to colleagues, assisting them with successfully completing assigned projects.
Plans and recommendations for changes to the configuration and capacity/performance of the operating system.
Prepares long and short-range plans for systems maintenance, production activities, and for necessary support resources.
Ensures computer systems security issues are addressed effectively in the House environment for all components of the platform operating system environment (e.g., network, desktop, Internet).
Demonstrates willingness and cooperation in participating in matrix managed projects.
Maintains professional relationships with customers, management, colleagues, and vendors while delivers high-quality customer service.
Provides input to management, as requested, on project team performance for Individual Performance Plans and employee performance evaluations. Performs other official duties and projects assigned.
This position does not have supervisory/managerial responsibilities. Grade level at time of appointment is determined by experience and designated level of responsibility.
