Full Job Description

This vacancy is for a GS-0501-9, Supervisory Military Pay System Specialist located in the Department of Homeland Security, U.S. Coast Guard, PPC MILITARY ACCOUNTS SUPPORT BRANCH in TOPEKA, Kansas.

To qualify at the GS-09grade level, your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) full year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-07 grade level in the federal sector.

Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the ability, skill, and knowledge to successfully perform the duties of this position and is typically in or related to this line of work.

Examples of specialized experience include performing the following types of tasks on a regular basis. Performing operational oversight and quality assurance for a team member or department.

Executing technical audits of military pay and/or personnel records. Conducting organizational research and management studies to evaluate program effectiveness.

Managing large-scale organizational communication programs to disseminate information within an enterprise across various modalities.

NOTE: Education can be substituted for experience at this grade level if you meet one of the following: A.

Possess a Master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.B. or J.D in a related field of study, OR, B.

Have a combination of specialized experience as described above and graduate education (if related). The total percentages must equal at least 100 percent to qualify for this position.

National Service Experience (i.e., volunteer experience): Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social).

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Major Duties:

You will serve as a Supervisory Military Pay System Specialist and be responsible for assisting the Branch chief with the management and administration of payroll for military and uniformed members of the U.S.

Coast Guard and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). Being a Coast Guard civilian makes you a valuable member of the Coast Guard team.

Typical work assignments include: Monitoring and reporting on the status and progress of work, checking on work in progress and reviewing completed work to ensure work priorities, methods, deadlines and quality have been met.

Performing audits of military pay and personnel records for active duty personnel, which are technical in nature and require strict attention to detail.

Gathering information and performing research on administrative and program issues. Performing supervisory, administrative and human resources management functions.
