About the Position: This position is located at the 59th Medical Wing - Joint Base San Antonio - Wilford Hall Ambulatory Surgical Center; Lackland Air Force Base, Texas.

This is a Direct Hire Solicitation Who May Apply: US Citizens In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social).

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes assisting with the management of medical records programs; reviewing medical records to ensure accurate coding of medical diagnoses and/or procedures; ensuring medical coding is in compliance with legal and regulatory requirements; and making administrative decisions directly affecting the care of medical records programs.

This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11).

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify.

For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted. Major Duties:

  • Plan, organize, and direct the activities of the medical records program (to include paper and electronic media), ensuring that medical records administration complies with legal and regulatory requirements and meets customer needs.
  • Develop goals and objectives that integrate organization and medical records objectives.
  • Plan, organize, and direct the activities of the coding program, ensuring coding actions comply with legal and regulatory requirements and meets customer needs.
  • Research, interpret, analyze, and apply federal, state, and local laws and requirements, and agency directives and instructions.
  • Establish policies and procedures for accomplishment of medical records administration.
  • Direct, coordinate, and oversee work through subordinate supervisors.
