Job Description

Summary

This job involves leading a team in the EPA's emergency management branch to plan and respond to environmental incidents, such as hazardous spills or contamination sites, while ensuring the agency's goals for protecting health and the environment are met.

It requires supervising staff, managing risks, and representing the organization in key discussions.

Key Requirements

  • One year of full-time specialized experience at GS-14 level or equivalent in emergency response, planning, preparedness, and prevention for environmental incidents

  • Proficiency in incident management, technical knowledge, and risk management
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills for representing the agency and explaining policies

  • Qualification in life sciences, environmental engineering, physical sciences, or related field (per Education section)

Full Job Description

This position is in Region 10, Superfund and Emergency Management Division, Emergency Management, Site Assessment & Removal Branch. About: Region 10.

This is an office-centered position--you must physically report to one of the duty stations stated in this announcement on a regular basis (location TBD after candidate selected).

NOTE: You must meet qualification requirements, including any requirements described in the Education section, by the closing date of this announcement.

To qualify for the GS-15 level, you must have 1 year of full-time* specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-14 level defined as providing emergency response capabilities and implementing planning, preparedness, and prevention activities to ensure readiness for environmental incidents; implementing the Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Act (CERCLA) site assessment and removal program to address environmental hazards.

You will: Plan, organize, and direct the activities of the organizational unit to develop goals and objectives that integrate organization and program objectives for promoting effective operation of the organization.

Exercise supervisory personnel management responsibilities to oversee work, ensure reasonable equity among units of performance standards, and resolve group grievances and employee complaints for promoting an environment for effective mission accomplishment.

Represent the organizational unit and Agency to explain policy and procedures, resolve significant problems, and determine appropriate actions of impact for establishing, developing, and maintaining effective working relationships.

You will spend less than 25% of your work time on contracts, grants/cooperative agreements, and/or interagency agreements.
