Full Job Description

Organizational Location: This position is with the Department of Homeland Security, within U.S.

Customs and Border Protection, Office of Information and Technology, Cyber Security Directorate located in Ashburn, VA.

Basic Requirement: Individuals must have IT-related experience demonstrating each of the four competencies listed below.

Attention to Detail - Is thorough when performing work and conscientious about attending to detail.

Customer Service - Works with clients and customers (that is, any individuals who use or receive the services or products that your work unit produces, including the general public, individuals who work in the agency, other agencies, or organizations outside the Government) to assess their needs, provide information or assistance, resolve their problems, or satisfy their expectations; knows about available products and services; is committed to providing quality products and services.

Oral Communication - Expresses information (for example, ideas or facts) to individuals or groups effectively, taking into account the audience and nature of the information (for example, technical, sensitive, controversial); makes clear and convincing oral presentations; listens to others, attends to nonverbal cues, and responds appropriately.

Problem Solving - Identifies problems; determines accuracy and relevance of information; uses sound judgment to generate and evaluate alternatives, and to make recommendations.

You qualify for this position if you meet the basic requirement listed above and possess one year of specialized experience as described below.

Experience: You qualify for the GS-14 grade level if you possess 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level, performing duties such as: Assisting in the analysis of the overall cyber threat landscape to help limit cyber threats, minimize attack vectors, and build effective defenses that can adapt to emerging threats.

Supporting the development, revision, and implementation of new, revised, interim, and long-term cybersecurity solutions, policies, instructions, and procedures for cybersecurity systems.

Designing, implementing, and managing network security controls in public and government cloud environments.

Utilizing container orchestration security (Kubernetes) and implementing Zero Trust, software-defined network architectures to secure network activities.

Leading cross-functional projects, providing authoritative technical guidance on Cloud Security Posture, and mitigating security risks.

Customs and Border Protection (CBP) is a federal law enforcement agency that requires all applicants to undergo a thorough background investigation prior to employment in order to promote the agency's core values of vigilance, service to country, and integrity.

Joining Customs & Border Protection will allow you to use your expertise in Information Technology principles, concepts and methods to support Information Technology systems and services.

This position starts at a salary of $143,913.00 (GS-14, Step 1) to $187,093.00 (GS-14, Step 10) with promotion potential to $187,093 (GS-14 Step 10).

In this Supervisory Information Technology Specialist (Security) position, you will become a key team member of Homeland Security professionals.

Major duties of this position include: Ensuring the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of systems, networks, and data through the planning, analysis, development, implementation, maintenance, and enhancement of information systems security programs, policies, procedures, and tools.

Administering information technology (IT) principles, methods, and security products to protect and maintain the availability, integrity, confidentiality, and accountability of information system resources.

Implementing and advises on IT security policies and procedures to ensure the protection of information transmitted from installation using Local Area Networks (LAN), Wide Area Networks (WAN).

Providing technical advice, guidance, and assistance on a wide range of complex cyber security issues.

Attending meetings and briefs various leadership groups on the basis and objectives of existing and pending directional changes in cyber security policies affecting cloud services.
