Full Job Description

This position is located at the Department of War, Washington Headquarters Services, Facilities Services Directorate.

As a Supervisory Industrial Hygienist (Program Manager), you will serve as Chief, Occupational Safety and Health Branch, supporting Washington Headquarters Services (WHS), WHS supported organizations, and approximately +60,000 DoW employees throughout the National Capital Region (NCR).

In order to qualify for this position, you must meet the requirements described below.

Basic Requirement: A bachelor's or graduate/higher level degree in industrial hygiene, occupational health sciences, occupational and environmental health, toxicology, safety sciences, or related science.

OR A bachelor's degree in a branch of engineering, physical science, or life science that included 12 semester hours in chemistry, including organic chemistry, and 18 additional semester hours of courses in any combination of chemistry, physics, engineering, health physics, environmental health, biostatistics, biology, physiology, toxicology, epidemiology, or industrial hygiene.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social).

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

This position is being filled under Direct Hire Authority (DHA) in accordance with Section 9905 "Direct Hire Authority for Certain Personnel of the Department of War Typical work assignments may include the following: Integrates safety, industrial hygiene, and construction safety policies, standards, guides, and practices with WHS-wide policy and objectives.

Provides safety and occupational health review and· appropriate modification of proposed environmental, work statements, project plans, policies, systems, handbooks, and procedures.

Serves as the Supervisory Industrial Hygienist with management, administrative and technical responsibility for providing direction and control of all occupational safety and health programs.

Serves as the Branch Manager and assists the Team in balancing workload in accordance with established workflow, skill levels and specializations, and makes adjustments for priorities and timeliness.

Serves as a safety and occupational health consultant to key officials of WHS and DoW.

Maintains liaison with the Office of the Secretary of War, Personnel and Readiness; private organizations; safety, industrial hygiene and engineering schools; and industrial organizations to keep abreast of problems and developments in the field of safety management, safety engineering, industrial hygiene, and occupational health.
