This job involves leading a team of engineers at NASA's Stennis Space Center to design and analyze propulsion test facilities, focusing on mechanical systems like fluids and structures.
You'll provide technical guidance, supervise staff, and ensure projects align with NASA's goals.
It's ideal for an experienced engineer with strong leadership skills and expertise in high-pressure or cryogenic systems who enjoys managing complex technical challenges in aerospace.
You will serve as a Supervisory General Engineer, AST, Technical Management (Branch Chief) with the Engineering Division, Engineering and Test Directorate.
You will be responsible for providing specific technical and administrative direction and supervision to engineers serving in the Mechanical Engineering Branch.
You will lead a team of highly skilled Mechanical Engineers, Structural Experts, and Fluid/Thermal Analysts in the design and analysis of propulsion test and support facilities.
In addition to the Basic Education Requirement (in the Education section below), to qualify for this position you must meet the requirements below and have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade, which has equipped you with the particular competencies needed to successfully perform the duties of the position described above.
NASA utilizes OPM-approved qualification and rating requirements specific for Aerospace Technology (AST) positions which recognizes NASA's unique aerospace work.

To qualify for GS-15, you must have one year of directly related specialized experience equivalent to the GS-14 level: Analyzing cryogenic liquid, high-pressure liquid and gas, pneumatic, or hydraulic systems, and providing recommendations for meeting project requirements; Generating software models of liquid, gas, or cryogenic piping systems to perform stress analysis; or generating analytical and computational models of conventional fluid systems and high-pressure cryogenic propellant systems to evaluate performance of a test facility; and Providing input and feedback to proposals, estimates, and plans submitted to customers for proposed projects.
