Job Description

Summary

This job involves leading a team of firefighters at a naval air facility in California, overseeing emergency responses to fires and rescues, and managing programs for fire prevention and hazardous materials.

It requires hands-on experience in various types of firefighting and supervising others in high-stakes situations.

A good fit would be someone with proven leadership in emergency services, strong training skills, and a passion for safety in military or aviation settings.

Key Requirements

  • At least one year of specialized experience at GS-09 level or equivalent in fire protection, including aircraft, structural, ordinance, and shipboard firefighting
  • Experience training personnel in fire protection and prevention techniques
  • Knowledge of managing hazardous materials protection and control programs, including contingency planning and equipment deployment
  • Possess required certifications: Firefighter I & II, Fire Officer III, Fire Inspector II, Fire Instructor II, Hazardous Materials Incident Commander, and Airport Firefighter (from DoD, IFSAC, or ProBoard)
  • Ability to direct firefighting and rescue operations during major emergencies
  • Skills in investigating fire causes and recommending fire protection policies

Full Job Description

You will serve as a SUPERVISORY FIREFIGHTER in the FIRE & EMERGENCY SERVICES DIVISION of NAVAL AIR FACILITY EL CENTRO.

In order to qualify for this position, your resume must provide sufficient experience and/or education, knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are being considered.

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-09 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector performing the following duties: 1) Applying principles, practices, and techniques applicable to fire protection elements involving fire prevention, aircraft, structural, ordinance and shipboard firefighting; 2) Training personnel in fire protection and prevention; and 3) Managing a hazardous materials protection and control program (i.e., knowledge of hazardous materials used; development of contingency plan; deployment of vehicles with specialized equipment, etc.).

*This position requires the incumbent to possess the following certifications; Firefighter I & II,Fire Officer III, Fire Inspector II, Fire Instructor II, Hazardous Materials Incident Commander, and Airport Firefighter.

Firefighter related certificates must have been awarded by DoD, IFSAC, or ProBoard to meet the certification requirement.

  • You will investigate and/or review all fires to determine cause as directed.
  • You will make recommendations on fire protection/prevention policies and directives governing related fire programs within the command served.
