Job Description

Summary

This job involves leading a team that maintains, repairs, and overhauls heavy lifting equipment used in naval shipyard operations, ensuring everything runs safely and efficiently.

You'll plan maintenance schedules, manage budgets, and make sure the team follows all necessary rules and standards.

Key Requirements

  • At least one year of specialized experience at GS-12 level or equivalent in maintenance, overhaul, and repair of weight handling equipment (WHE), including nuclear and non-nuclear types
  • Strong knowledge of regulations and standards like NAVFAC P-307 for WHE operations, maintenance, and safety
  • Proficiency in planning and scheduling maintenance activities, including inspections, preventive maintenance, corrective actions, and work sequencing
  • Skills in cost estimation, evaluating work processes, and developing strategies for WHE repair, alteration, and overhaul
  • Supervisory experience, including delegating authority, managing budgets for labor, equipment, materials, and training, and ensuring policy compliance
  • Ability to identify technical and office equipment needs and formulate division policies

Full Job Description

You will serve as a SUPERVISORY EQUIPMENT SPECIALIST in the Crane Maintenance Division (Code 730), of the Deputy Lifting and Handling Department (Code 701) of the Lifiting and Handling Department (Code 700) of NORFOLK NAVAL SHIPYARD.

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-12 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector.

Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Experience with the maintenance, overhaul, and repair of nuclear and non-nuclear Weight Handling Equipment (WHE).

Experience understanding regulations and standards, including NAVFAC P-307 and other governing directives related to WHE operations, maintenance, and safety compliance.

Experience planning and scheduling maintenance activities, including the coordination of inspections, preventive maintenance, corrective actions, and work sequencing in support of WHE maintenance/operations.

Experience performing and applying cost estimation techniques, evaluate work processes, and develop maintenance strategies and plans for the repair, alteration, and overhaul of WHE.

  • You will delegate authority to others but retain responsibility for actions pertaining to routine office/policy matters for the division.
  • You will ensure the development and formulation of the division’s budget for all labor, equipment, materials, training, etc., funds for the coming fiscal year.
