About the Position: Serves as the Supervisory Environmental Protection Specialist at Fort Belvoir, VA.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-12 grade level in the Federal service which includes developing environmental programs in accordance with environmental laws, executive orders and regulations; managing one or more environmental programs; experience with constructing and maintaining Integrated Natural Resources Management plans and/or Cultural Resource Management Plans; and conducting environmental inspections, surveys and audits.

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify.

For this job, you must meet the qualification requirements using experience alone -- no substitution of education for experience is permitted.

Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-12).

Major Duties:

  • Serves as a Professional Technical Advisor for all environmental issues, pest control and all phases of the land and natural resources management issues and disciplines.
  • Provides personnel management and supervision of the Environmental government staff.
  • Serves as professional expert for natural and cultural resource compliance, land management, forestry, landscaping, soil conservation, wildlife, and pest management.
  • Analyzes budget requirements for environmental and natural resources and provides input to higher headquarters to ensure program requirements are adequately reflected in the Command Operating Budget.
  • Designs landscapes for developed areas selecting appropriate natural vegetation and supplementing as appropriate with ornamental trees, shrubs, grasses and wildflowers.
  • Responsible for overall management of natural/cultural resources: preparation/implementation of long-range and annual plans establishing standards, compliance acceptable practices and goals for maintenance, environmental protection, and development.
