This job involves leading a team of data scientists at a VA medical center in Colorado, where you'll oversee the design and analysis of research projects focused on improving veteran healthcare.

This position is located in the Rocky Mountain Regional VA Medical Center, Veterans Health Administration (VHA), and is based in Aurora CO.
The Seattle- Denver Center or Innovation (COIN) for Veteran- Centered and Value Driven Care is a VHA Office of Research & Development (ORD).

Individual Occupational Requirement (IOR): The 1560 series requires specific education or experience to be met in order to be appointed into a position of this series.
You must meet the pre-determined education and/or experience Individual Occupational Requirement (IOR) below as set by Office of Personnel Management (OPM). A.
Education: Degree: Mathematics, statistics, computer science, data science or field directly related to the position.
The degree must be in a major field of study (at least at the baccalaureate level) that is appropriate for the position. OR B.
Combination of education and experience: Courses equivalent to a major field of study (30 semester hours) as shown in paragraph A above, plus additional education or appropriate experience.
Grade Determinations: GS-14: In addition to meeting the Individual Occupation Requirements (IOR) above, applicants must have one (1) full year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-13 grade level in the Federal service.
Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: Participated in data science and statistical analyses initiatives to manage research programs to include resource and performance management, and dissemination of results Served in role as statistical analyst who managed data science analysis, planned activities, and executed program requirements.
Applied expert knowledge on at least one statistical programming software such as, R, SAS, STATA; and software for large data analytics programs plus SQL, Microsoft Access Applied expert knowledge on the application of theories, principles, methods, and techniques of statistics/data management schemas Proficient on managing research data, oversight of resources, developed, implemented and monitored performance Managed protocol designs, statistical analysis plans, data collection, extraction, and management plans.
Preferred Experience: Experience in human research related to Health Services Research (HRS) programs.

Physical Requirements: The work is primarily sedentary and does not require and special physical effort. Some periods of walking, standing, and bending. Driving a motor vehicle may be required.
Employees frequently carry research records and other similar materials. Major Duties:
The Supervisory Data Scientist serves as the Chief Data Scientist and subject matter expert for Denver COIN.
Oversees all analytical design, operations and implementations for HSR-funded Research and Operations- funded quality improvement projects. Manages end-to- end data process in the data life cycle.
Designs, guides, and oversees the construction of data pipelines using complex tools and techniques to handle data at scale.
Consults with stakeholders and customers to identify the appropriate data, methodological approach, design, and execution of quantitative plans for all Denver COIN data needs.
Directs evaluation of technically rigorous and innovative data infrastructure to execute quantitative aspects of all COIN research projects efficiently and effectively.
Develops and implements advanced systems for the organization's data management program. Directs the development, coding, testing, and maintenance of database programs.
Recommends improvements to upstream processes to improve data quality. Work Schedule: Monday-Friday 8:00am- 4:30pm Telework: Ad Hoc Available Virtual: This is not a virtual position.
