Note: Actual salary includes locality pay (15-40%+ depending on location).
This job involves leading a team of chemists in a naval shipyard lab, focusing on quality control, developing policies for testing materials and environmental data, and providing expert advice to ensure labs run efficiently.
It's ideal for an experienced chemist with strong leadership skills who enjoys solving complex scientific problems and shaping guidelines for government labs.
Candidates should have a background in chemistry and at least a year of high-level supervisory experience in a similar field.
You will serve as a SUPERVISORY CHEMIST in the Laboratory Quality and Accreditation Office (Code1561) in the Quality Performance Control Division (Code 1560) of the Naval Shipyard Support Office (Code 1500) of NORFOLK NAVAL SHIPYARD.
In addition to the Basic Requirements for this position, your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-13 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector.
Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Experience applying principles and practices of chemistry that enable the incumbent to apply experimental theories and new developments to problems not susceptible to treatment by accepted methods.
Experience interpreting requirements related to laboratory testing and providing expert advice to agency and command headquarters and field personnel.
Experience developing policy, technical manuals, and guidance documents for material testing and environmental sciences.
